The simple straightforward message (sometimes problems work to our advantage in the end) is enhanced with beautiful illustrations that clarify the text.

Even when things are difficult, it can still be a good day. That's basically what this sweet book is about. The illustrations are simple and clear, and so is the message.

This book is all about how animals overcome small obstacles to have a great day in the end. The text is simple, but the message is clear and will appeal to young readers. The illustrations are its strength. They are beautiful, colorful painted illustrations of each animal. Children will identify

with the emotions of the animals’ faces and will learn strategies to overcome small problems. This book covers a great topic for young readers who struggle with similar issues everyday at the 7 years and younger age stage of development.

great book for working on reading for 'reading on my own age graders'

This would be a cute book for kindergateners because its about how a bad day turn into a good day. After I read the story I could ask the kids what would make their day better.

I found this book to be very well conceived and to have a positive message for children; perseverance through tumultuous times will eventually yield a positive result. Events that hinder the day of bird, fox, dog, and squirrel are forgotten as time brings about good things, revitalizing their

spirit. At the end, the book relates to the child, as a little girl becomes joyous having found a flower and calls to her mother, claiming “today was a good day.” I found the simplicity of storyline to fit the artwork perfectly, giving an impression of life as a very tranquil phenomenon.

This is a simple story with equally simple illustrations, ideal for first time readers. In opposite of my last title, this depicts a clear moral content with few words and beautiful illustrations, bringing emphasis in the visual richness of the book.

This is definitely not my favorite Kevin Henkes book, but it is still a cute story. It is an easy read, so I would recommend it for kindergarteners and early first graders. A follow-up activity would be to discuss how some bad days can get better. I think most children would enjoy this book. The

pictures are great, too!

A great book about perspective, how bad events don’t last forever and good can be just around the corner. You can solve the problem yourself! The illustrations are warm and fun.

Henkes' illustrations are full and colorful and give a liveliness to the text. A strength of the large, bold, and simple illustrations is that it easily becomes one of those early texts that a child hears so often they begin to “read” it themselves just from the illustrations.

This book is a perfect example that attitude is everything! A squirrel, bird, fox and dog are having a bad day for various reasons. But then...something exciting happened to each of these animals that turned their day into ' A Good Day'. Everything in the story is interconnected. It also
Show More
demonstrates how one character's loss was another character's gain. The bird lost his favorite tail feather which made it a bad day for him but then the little girl found it making it a good day for her.

This story is a great book describing how bad situations can turn into good ones. The 4 main characters are animals. They are all individually in a bind. They end up getting out of the bind and something good becomes of it.

This book is perfect in its simplicity. Four seemingly horrible events are followed by four happy revelations and a final turn of a horrible event into a reward. I liked this book because it makes it point clear and simple: bad things can become good things.

It was a bad day because several little incidents happened to bird, fox, dog, and squirrel. But then it was a good day because all of their problems got solved. Everyone turned to look at the bright side, and they were happy.

Four animals each start out having a bad day, and then it turns around! It's a very simple story, and short book, but Henkes' illustrations are beautiful as always, and the book has such a sweet message. Good for very small children, older kids may be a little bored.

A Good Day, by Kevin Henkes is a picture book that tells the story of four animals who start out by having a bad day but end up having a great day. The story begins with a yellow bird, a fox, a dog, and a squirrel who all deal with minor setbacks that lead them to believe they will have a bad day.

Fortunately for them halfway through the story their luck changes and they all end up having a great day.

I think this picture book is great because although the story is really simple it has such a great message for kids. The illustrations were done in vibrant watercolour paints and brown ink. I read this book to a group of young children and they seemed to really enjoy the story. This is a great picture book and would be an asset to any picture book collection.

This book is about a bird, a dog, a fox, and a squirrel and they are all having a very bad day. But things turn around for them and their bad day turns into a very good day.

This was about the different animals and how they were having a bad day. But then it changed and they end up having a good day.

This book is about four animals which you can see on the cover. They start off having a bad day but then soon turns out to be a great day. There is a yellow bird, a squirrel, a fox, and a dog. This story is great for children to see that things might go wrong but can also turn out positive.

Good story about a bad day for one person can turn into a good day for a lot of people if you just don't let your attitude get in the way of you changing your opinion.
LibraryThing member leighfer23
The language in this book is geared towards an audience of kinder or first and explains the emotions of why things could be a bad day. It goes through animals and their misfortunes first but then shows how the animals resolve their issues and it turns into a good day. In the end a little girl finds

a yellow tail feather that the little bird lost and runs and tells her mommy that it is a good day. This book can teach that although there are many things that can get you down in life there are many little things that can also uplift your spirits. The illustrations are bold and cute for the age group and type fallows along with the story. The type is on one page while the illustrations on the other and are a pretty decent size for the book. Over all a good message, especially for those students who are feeling a bit blue.

I found plenty of meaning to the book. No matter how much of a bad day you are having it in bound to turn around. Everything is connected in this world. How something is bad can always get better. The vocabulary is perfect for an elementary level student.

A bird lost his feather, a dog was tangled in his leash, a fox couldn't find his mother, and a squirell dropped her nut. Then everything turned around for them and they had a good day.
