Gr 4–8—Haddix's latest science fiction series starts off with a bang in this nail-biter. A plane arrives at an airline gate unnoticed by radar and most personnel. There are no flight attendants, no pilot, in fact no adults at all, but there are 36 passengers—each seat is inhabited by an
Show More
infant. Thirteen years later in Ohio, teenage adoptees Jonah and his friend Chip begin receiving ominous messages declaring that they are among "the missing" and that someone is coming to find them. Frightened yet intrigued, the boys begin a search for their real identities with the help of Jonah's younger sister. Their search leads them to a discovery that strains credulity and leads them into danger greater than they ever imagined possible. The story is driven by an exciting plot rather than extensive character development, and the teens act independently of the adults, who appear as "bad guys" or are basically useless. If used in a classroom, the revelation of the babies' identities can be used to kick off a history lesson or two. This book's exciting premise and cliff-hanger ending will leave readers on the edge of their seats and begging for more.—Heather M. Campbell, Philip S. Starred Review. In a tantalizing opener to a new series, Haddix (the Shadow Children series) taps into a common childhood fantasy—that you are really the offspring of royalty or famous people, and were somehow adopted by an ordinary family—and one-ups it by adding in time travel. As the novel
Show More
begins, a brand-new airline employee experiences an event that she is later told never to talk about: a plane carrying 36 babies, and no one else, not even a pilot, shows up without warning at a nearby gate. Fast-forward 13 years, and two 13-year-old friends, Chip and Jonah, are receiving mysterious notes, with messages like You are one of the missing and Beware! They're coming back to get you. Only then does Chip learn that he, like Jonah, is adopted. Joined by Jonah's sister, Katherine, the boys investigate and discover that the FBI was involved with their adoptions. These smart kids show initiative and do a great job using familiar technology (camera phones, photo-editing programs, etc.) to get information and track down other adoptees. By book's end they are trapped by some shady characters; learn that they are among the most famous missing children in history (e.g., Virginia Dare, the 15th-century English princes in the Tower); and get sent back in time. Readers will be hard-pressed to wait for the next installment. Ages 8-12. (Apr.) Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

I really wanted to like this book, and I imagine that many children would, but I just found it predictable and two-dimensional. The characters weren't compelling, and the ideas were flimsy.

Haddix has created a masterpiece. Found is one of those books you just can't put down. Every turn of the page reveals another twist, another puzzle piece. As I turned the last page, regret settled that I would not be able to see what happens next. I would have to wait until the sequel.

very strange premise that culminates in an exciting ending that somehow, failed to satisfy.

This book is about a boy who is confused about people vanishing into thin air and has a strange part in being one of the "Missing".

I stumbled across this in the library, and was hesitant to pick it up. After reading most of her Shadow Children series, I figured she had a lot to live up to, and this book looked like part of an attempt to repeat her prior series' success. But... I read it anyway.

It was good, but not as good as
Show More
her other work. There were some aspects of the book that felt contrived - particularly the ending sequence, though I understand that it needed to set up the next book - and the writing style and characters were similar to that of Shadow Children. There were some unbelievable parts, while other parts simply surprised me... namely, she doesn't turn around and give everything a perfectly natural explanation in the end, like in many of her other books. That was good - a bit of a departure, so I appreciate the effort - but I'm not quite sure how it'll pan out.

That said, I can say with certainty that I'll read the next book, though it isn't released until this coming August. I want to reserve judgment on the series as a whole until after I see how she develops the theme and moves the plot. In the meantime...? If you've liked her other books, it's worth checking this one out. If you haven't read Haddix before, try book #1 in the Shadow Children series first (Among the Hidden).

I suppose this is the first in a series that will feature time travel. This first book set up the premise of children being kidnapped by future time travellers to be sold into adoption in the future. Something goes wrong and a plane full of babies is found at the airport. Thirteen years later the
Show More
forces from the future are coming back for the children. This is an interesting juvenile book.

Right now Mrs. McCarthy is reading Found to the sixth grade. It is a mystery about a boy who is adopted, he got two letters in the mail saying... " you are one of the missing". Then a couple days later his friends chip gets a letter in the mail saying you are one of the missing!

Thirteen year old Jonah receives a letter that says "You are one of the missing". He doesn't understand what it means or where he came from and when he finds out that his friend, Chip receives the same letter, he is freaked out. Both boys are adopted and they believe the letters are somehow related
Show More
to that. As they begin to investigate, they become involved with what seems to be a sinister plot involving 34 other children, disappearing airplanes and people, and the FBI.

Haddix has created a taut thriller for tweens and teens that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I can't wait to read the rest of the installment.

This novel is very exciting. Chip and Jonah don't know where their investigations will lead them, and the truth becomes more terrifying for them every step of their quest. Jonah's younger sister Katherine is a well-developed character and a nice addition to the plot. The rules of time travel can
Show More
get a little too detailed, but overall the suspense is sustained throughout and this is a real page-turner.

Mrs. Haddix has again created an intriguing story. "Found" has lots of twists and turns. It left me with the feeling, you can't end this book that way. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next book in the sequence.

Found is a book for the series reader. Unfortunately, I wanted the next book immediately after I read the first and now I have to wait. Haddix continues with her mysterious twist and turns writing style. To summarize the book would take away its mystery. Let's just say there are babies and teens
Show More
and they are connected to some historical figures in a way that involves a vanishing act and a trip through time. An excellent book to start a great series.

I love this book. Within the first few pages you are hooked by the storyline. The characters the author builds are so strong, and the plot so believable, that even those who don't like science fiction typically will be sucked in! The strengths of the book are the three dimensional characters, great
Show More
hook at the beginning, and believable plot line. Plus, she is a master of creating suspense as she weaves the plot. The weakness for me was when the time slip happened. It seemed to be a little predictable at that point.

An airplane mysteriously appears at the airport with no flight crew. There are 36 passengers on the plane and they are all babies. Fastforward 13 years to Jonah, an adopted kid who starts receiving mysterious letters in the mail "Beware, they are coming to take you back!" You get the idea. Where
Show More
did the babies come from, why is the FBI involved in his adoption, etc. I always enjoy a good time-travel tale. I bought this for Zack and Petey to read, but found myself reading it instead. It's a good clean one, age appropriate for 4-7th grade.

Thirteen-year-old Jonah has always known that he was adopted, and he's never thought it was any big deal. Then he and a new friend, Chip, who's also adoped, begin receiving mysterious letters. The first one says, "You are one of the missing." The second one says, "Beware! They're coming back to get
Show More
you."
Jonah, Chip, and Jonah's sister, Katherine, are plunged into a mystery that involves the FBI, a vast smuggling operation, an airplane that appeared out of nowhere -- and people who seem to appear and disappear at will. The kids discover they are caught in a battle between two opposing forces that want very different things for Jonah and Chip's lives.

Do Jonah and Chip have any choice in the matter? And what should they choose when both alternatives are horrifying?

With Found, Margaret Peterson Haddix begins a new series that promises to be every bit as suspenseful as her Shadow Children series -- which has sold more than 41/2 million copies -- and proves her, once again, to be a master of the page-turner.

The main characters are Chip, Jonah, and Katherine. Jonah is adopted and so is Chip and they are trying to figure out who their birth parents are. If you like mysteries and you are in 4th or 5th grade then you will love this book!

A plane arrives at an airport with 36 babies in the seats and no pilot. After the babies are unloaded it disappears mysteriously. Thirteen years later, two friends, Jonah and Chip, begin receiving threatening messages. With Jonah's sister's help, the two friends try to find out why the FBI is
Show More
involved in their adoptions. The two stories converge as the boys discover that they were two of the babies on the plane. This will appeal to science fiction lovers - especially those who like stories about time travel.

I had high expectations for my first Haddix book and I was not disappointed. While I have read other reviews that state this is not her strongest read, I have to say that only makes me look forward to the others even more. I am not a huge Fantasy or Science Fiction reader, but Found had me hooked
Show More
from the first few pages. I would definitely recommend this book for a wide variety of ages.

13-year-old Jonah and his new friend Chip are adopted. Jonah has had no problem with being an adopted kid, but then he and Chip begin receiving mysterious letters warning them of their past and their future. As Jonah, Chip, and Jonah’s sister Katherine delve into their pasts to investigate the
Show More
circumstances of Jonah’s adoption, they stumble upon the seeds of a frightening possibility that involves a baby smuggling program, disappearing planes and people, time travel, and two different groups who want different things for a certain group of adopted kids…and neither option the groups offer is particularly appealing.

FOUND is a promising start to another Haddix sci-fi/speculative/dystopian series that will be sure to attract fans both old and new. The suspense is almost unbearable; the plot twists unpredictable, yet reasonable. The characters are less well developed than those in her previous books, and Jonah is occasionally a frustratingly cynical and denial-happy protagonist. But young readers may be able to overlook character deficiencies in light of the excitement. Classic Haddix goodness.

One of my favorites! The beginning is kind of confusing but after a while you get used to it. Your learning about time travel and identities. Then there's bad guys and good guys but your wondering who can you trust? You don't really know anyone and your suddenly ready to go back to med evil times!
Jonah, Chip, and Katharine are trying to find there true identities while getting chased after people that want them to travel to the future!

This is the first book I've read by the author and I was blow away! What a fantastic read!!

In a remote airport, and plane appears, and nobody is sure where it came from. One of the workers comes out and boards the plane to see if she can find out what happened. When she checks it out, she sees
Show More
that the plane if full of babies. No adults, just babies. Who are they?

Thirteen years pass and we meet Jonah. It turns out he's adopted, and he's find with it. Then one day, he receives a strange note in the mail that tells him he's been "found". He thinks it's a prank, and tosses it out. Soon he gets another one. His sister, Katherine, and his friend, Chip try and help. However the lives of all three will be changed forever. Indeed, people are after Jonah, but who could they be? For Katherine or Chip, one of their lives, if not both will be changed forever. I can't really say to much more on the plot, because I don't want to give anything away. Trust me, this is a great read! You want to talk about a great ending..... read Found, this has a great ending!

This is a wonderful book. It has great characters, who actually grow and develop. I loved teh characters of Jonah, Chip and Katherine. This book also has a TON of plot twists! Just when you think that you understand something, BANG! a plot twist that keeps the reader hooked! Many time I said, "Just one more chapter" and I'd read three or four more. Honestly, it's that good. The ending is jaw-dropping.

I can promise that you will lose a lot of sleep. You'll be sucked in you don't mind giving up sleep to find out what happens to Jonah, Chip, and Katherine. One you start it, you too will say, "Just one more chapter."

If you start this book, I can PROMISE that you'll be hooked. You won't be sorry if you read Found, I know I wasn't! I can't wait to get the second book in the series!

Jonah and Chip are reciving mysterious letters. They are both adopted, but why is this happening? Then they are stuck in time with Katherine and Alex and 30 other kids. Chip, Alex, and all the other kids except Katherine, were the missing children of history. Chip and Alex have to go back in time

to "fix it". But, to the adult's dismay, Jonah and Katherine are going with them.

Jonah and Chip discover that they are adopted and they try to find out where they really come from. With the help of Jonah's sister Kathrien they discover that they are really the missing children of history. I would recommend this book to science fiction fans

Haddix is one of my favorite children's authors, so I had high hopes picking up this novel, the first in a new series. Jonah Skidmore, an adopted child who receives a mysterious letter saying only "You are one of the missing." When his new friend, Chip, receives the same letter -- and consequently
Show More
discovers that he was adopted too -- the boys and Katherine, Jonah's sister, search for more clues about the boys' identities and the mystery surrounding their adoptions. A fast-paced book, very plot-central with lots of twists, and a quick read but not as good as some of her others. I would easily recommend it to reluctant readers.

This was great. I think all the fans of her Among the HIdden books will have a new series to fall in love with.

Found is the first book in the Missing Series created by Haddix. The likeable characters are given some space to get established well and yet there is still plenty of action. Haddix manages to introduce as many questions as answers in each chapter without frustrating the reader.
