I really enjoyed this book for many reasons. The biggest reason was because the main idea of it is being brave even when you are scared, as well as spending time with family. I found the characters to have a believable grandmother-grandchild relationship. Another part I really liked is the
Show More
illustrations. I thought they were colorful, cozy, and really showed what was happening in the story. They are drawn running down the path to get the next item on their list. I thought the plot was excellent. Once the child in the story was told to count the amount of time between a flash of lightning and the thunder, the sense of urgency increased:"'1-2-3-4-5-6-7' I counted. BOOOOOOM BA-OOOOOOOOM, crashed the thunder. It scared me a lot, but I kept walking with Grandma." The child also constantly mentions how everything Grandma is requiring her to do scares her, but at Grandma's insistence the child does it anyway. I loved that there was a climax, when they put the cake in the oven minutes before the storm actually reaches the house. The falling action, where Grandma tells her grandchild how she was brave even though she was scared of the storm, the hen, the cow--she did what she needed to do to make the cake in time.

this is a story about a little girl and how her grandmother helps her get over her fear of lightning. the little girl must round up ingredients for a cake, such as milk and eggs, all while counting the seconds between the thunder and lightning to determine how far away it is. This would be a great

This book is good for comforting a child through thunderstorms that might be scared. I think it might be fun to actually bake the thunder cake to with children, I think it would give them an ease through what they might be scared of.

This is a great story that explains a childs terror of storms. The author explains that the grandmother tells stories to keep the childs mind of the weather. The pictures are always really good in Polacco's stories but I really enjoyed the pictures tremendously in this story. Her stories are so

This was a very good book; this reminds me of what my grandmother used to do to distract us from those bad summer storms. Being from New Orleans with all of the tropical storms that children have to come to school in, this would be a good book to read and make thunder cake for one of those horribly
