Genre: Historical fiction
Critique of Genre: This is a fairly good example of historical fiction because it gives you some facts about the time of the American Revolution, but we don't really know exact dates or anything. All we know is that the battle takes place in the summer of 1777 in Vermont. I

liked the little story of the boy who helped the troops in his own little way, but the story never really grabs your attention.
Characterization: Aaron is a very flat character along with the rest of the characters in this story. We don't get to know much about him other than the fact that he wants to be right in the middle of the fighting action and doesn't like that he has to stay behind with his mother and grandfather to make loaves of bread for the soldiers.
