Description

"World War I set the tone for the 20th century and introduced a new type of warfare: global, mechanical, and brutal. Nathan Hale has gathered some of the most fascinating true-life tales from the war and given them his inimitable Hazardous Tales twist. Easy to understand, funny, informative, and lively, this series is the best way to be introduced to some of the most well-known battles (and little-known secrets) of the infamous war"--

A summary of World War I in a highly readable format. The author even works in a little humor, to lighten the horror of the war. I recommend it even for adults who would like to gain a basic understanding of the war.

In this slightly humorous hazardous tale of World War I, you get almost a full account of all the important events that occurred during WWI in the form of a unique and engaging text. Students will love this book because not only is it using animals and graphics to address an important part of our

history, it manages to be compelling and informative to the point that they may want to read more books from this informational series. This would be great to use in a curriculum unit about WWI, where the teacher/librarian can read aloud parts of the book and the kids can continue reading on their own at home for homework. This book is so well done the students may even forget they are reading what is considered an informational non fiction book. For an assignment I would like to see the students create a storyboard summarizing what the book was about and also a short paper on what they learned on WWI.

*This would also be a great way to help ELL students participate with the rest of the class for this particular unit.
