This series just keeps getting better. I *love* Piggie dressed up all fancy-like.

Using his minimalist illustrations and dialogue in cartoon bubbles of text; Mo Willems creates a humorous and energized story. After many unusual and humorous outfits, elephant helps piggy get ready for a party.

In this charmingly funny book by Willems, Pig and Elephant agonize over how to dress appropriately for the party to which they have been invited. Helen.

These books are so cute and funny. In this story elephant, the party expert, is trying to help piggie decide what to wear to her first party.

In this book, Piggy is invited to a party. She invites Elephant to go to the party with her because she has never been to a party before. Elephant "knows parties." Elephant helps piggy get ready for their party. It turns out that Elephant really does know parties.

S loves these two - she reads them aloud over and over and over...

They have such vivid illustrations, and such exciting text - text that still manages to be simple enough for early readers. (I'm still not sure how Mo Willems manages that feat!)

And did I mention the illustrations? When Piggie is skeptical about the idea of a fancy pool costume party, you could
Show More
just copy her picture and stick it in the dictionary under "skeptical". It'd work. When Gerald is convinced that he knows parties, you can just feel how sure he is. I love it so much.

Piggie is invited to a party and is really excited to show the invitation to her friend Gerald. Gerald assures her that he knows parties and that they have to be dressed appropriately for the party. Unfortunately they are not sure what the theme of the party is and end up wearing three different
Show More
outfits. To their surprise they were dressed appropriately.

I enjoyed this book mostly because of how silly it was. I like that neither Elephant nor Piggie are aware of how to go about attending a party. This book shows some different types of parties that children might someday attend themselves. As in all of Mo Willems literature, the friendship between

Elephant and Piggie is hilarious.

connection: Cute book for a read aloud or a take home!. It's an easy and fun way to get the students reading. Even thought the reading level is low it could be suitable for all readers in the class because it is such a cute little story.

I love all of the Elephant and Piggie books and this one did not disappoint. I love how there are very few words on each page and the illustrations are very simple but still entertaining. The reactions and facial expressions that the characters have definitely add humor. The 3 year old I babysit

Piggie is invited to her first party but doesn’t know what to do so she asks her friend Gerald – who knows parties – for help. The party outfits Piggie and Gerald concoct in an effort to be prepared for all events will surely tickle any reader’s funny bone while the ending packs a final
Show More
twist that’s sure to make readers laugh out loud. The humor of this early reader is pitched perfectly for its audience while the subject, going to a first party, is one to which many young readers will relate. The text is minimal, consisting solely of single sentence dialogue, which is cleverly depicted in speech bubbles color-coded for each character. Much of the story is told through the cartoonish illustrations, and a solid white background allows readers to focus on the actions and expressions of each character. Highly recommended for beginning readers, ages 4-7.

Mo Willems does it again with this Elephant and Piggie book. Piggie is invited to a party and decides to take Elephant with him, what follows is a hilarious look into what it takes to go to a party. Kids will love being able to read the words themselves or being read to. The use of white space will
Show More
help kids focus on words and characters. Like other books in the series, I Am Invited to a Party is funny and children will totally get the humor in the costume changes but will also connect to the insecurity of doing something that they have never done before (in this case, Piggie going to a party). The repetition of words will help beginning readers practice their skills. Highly recommended.

Gerald and Piggie are at it again, and this time they are preparing for a party that Piggie was invited to. Gerald claims to know parties, and after considering all of their options they settle on getting dressed up for a fancy, pool, costume party. Thankfully, they have friends just like them and

Gerald can continue to know parties. Great for beginning readers. These characters are always good for a laugh!

From the endpapers in (don't miss the pigeon peeking from an invitation envelope at the back), this Elephant and Piggie outing is just tons of fun. The expressions on the two friends faces and the body language are always spot on, the repeated chorus of "Party! Party! Party! Party!" gets more fun
Show More
with each repetition, and even the font changes as appropriate without being hard to read. Repetitive, simple language that never gets boring has got to be one of the hardest things to write, but Willems has it down pat.

Mo Willems creates fun, easy to read books that are rather spontaneous. I love how I can get done with the entire book within a couple minutes. Kids will surely love this.

Love author's approach to illustration and the telling of the story drawing from cartoons/comics with her use of text and repetition of characters in an animated sequence. Her humor is also one of its best assets which kids enjoy pretty much. This story makes the unexpected quite real, as if your

wildest imagination could be contained in reality.

Beginning Reader
I really liked this! I had never read Mo Willems before, but I really liked his story telling and especially the illustrations. These are great beginning reader books: the words are simple and easy, there is a lot of repetition, and the illustrations help guide the reader. Plus the
Show More
animal's facial expressions are hilarious, which makes the book entertaining for parents or other adults who are reading these books with children. I can definitely understand the appeal. In fact, I saw a NYT article about Mo Willems today and his success in the world of children's' literature. These are perfect classroom books for Kindergarten through probably 2nd-3rd grade.

The world would be a better place if everyone read these books. How can one be cynical, or power-mad, or avaricious, or righteous, if one embraces Elephant and Piggy?

Btw, this one reminds me that sometimes these have a bit of a metafiction/ breaking the fourth wall kind of thing going on. Here,
