Wonderful reading. Not as great a voice as Jim Weiss' versions but its also not abridged. Highly recommend.

This novel is unusual for Henty in that it misses some of the balance that he is known for. Due probably to the close proximity that the American Revolution still held in British society during the author's lifetime, this is not quite up to Henty's normal quality.

I've read many accounts (generally non-fiction) regarding the American Revolutionary War. This book was of particular interest to me as it provides the English perspective, albeit via historical fiction. While certain chapters accomplished that goal, unfortunately others were devoted to (in my

opinion) simplistic story telling better suited for children. Another work by the author, The Young Carthaginian, is a far better book. Show Less
