The illustrations and the text remind young readers to celebrate the wonders that are often taken for granted. This is a wonderful book to celebrate the sprouting of seeds and flowers that are starting to bloom as spring comes closer. It's a perfect little board book that will work well for kids

Using the classic hymn All Things Bright and Beautiful as her text, illustrator Naoko Stoop creates a charming little board book here, one which features her distinctive painted plywood artwork. Each two-page spread features one verse of the song - "The purple headed mountain, / The river running
Although not generally in the market for board books, I decided to track this one down after reading the author/artist's Red Knit Cap Girl recently, and finding the illustrations so compelling. As mentioned in my review of that other title, I really like the way in which the medium used affects the appearance of the final product, with the whorls and swirls in the wood itself showing up as added visual texture, in Stoop's paintings. Since I also happen to love the hymn used here, the end result was very pleasing. Recommended to babies who enjoy board books (and to the parents who read to them), as well as to fans of the artist's work.
