While people who move their lips read, The Left Behind series, the more literate among us who are interested in "end times" literature read O'Brien.

Excellent. Probes so many issues without skipping a beat in the plotline. Plague Journal covers a 5-day span (instead of 3 generations like its prequel Strangers & Sojourners) where cynic journalist Nathaniel Delaney suddenly finds himself fleeing from the thought police. It's Orwell's 1984 with a healthy dose of theology. And O'Brien isn't afraid to conjure events that you don't want to happen... just great honest fiction. And O'Brien blows LaHaye & Jenkins out of the water, defying what they popularized in the apocalypse genre. Looking forward to the next one, Eclipse of the Sun.
