Drahos has brought together in one book the full tradition of the Roman Catholic Church regarding angels. Drahos successfully moves on to make accessible the types, choirs and major roles of the three orders of angels, including the functions of the third, which directly interacts with human beings. Although not a dense read, the book is amply supported with footnotes to the Bible, the Catholic catechism, readings from St. Augustine and Thomas Aquinas and stories of the lives of the saints. The author directly engages the question of discerning between the magical angels publicized by the media and the angels of God, noting as well that at least one generation of Roman Catholic Christians--those reared since Vatican II--is angel-illiterate.
