As a Protestant, I found myself more appreciative of this commentary than I expected. There are, of course, places where Catholic teaching emerges with which I disagree. However, the overall approach was refreshing, and I found Montague a helpful and engaging discussion partner with the text.

Because he takes the text seriously, reads it in concert with the church through the ages, and treats the Scripture as a theological document, his writing is beneficial even when we differ.
