Realistic fiction for early primary grade levels. Amelia Bedelia (as a child) excitedly comes to school and causes many interruptions and ahs a lot of fun taking things too literally. She learns a lot her first day and is excited tocome back again the next. Media: Water color

Great book to read to first graders the first week of school. Students enjoy the adventures Amelia encounters her first day of school.

Amelia Bedilia is a fun hearted book about a girl that takes everything literal. As she goes through he first day of school everyone really likes her because she is quirky. It teaches us that you can be different and people will still like you.

You could use with ELL students and ask them if they can relate to any experiences that Amelila faced. Many times when learning a new language there are similar misunderstandings by taking things too literally.

You can teach your students how to play with words and find double meanings in texts. You
Show More
can also teach how to use elipses, italics when onomatopoeia words are used. Repetition and use of capitals are also very prevalent in the book and can be taught to students.

The book is not one of the normal Amelia Bedelia books. This Amelia is alot younger , but still fun. It is a wonderful book for elementary age children. The book is about Amelia's first day of school. She is so excited she can hardly focus. They did all kinds of exciting activities through out the

day. Everything her teacher told her she took the wrong way. At the end, Amelia could not wait to go back to school the next day.

Amelia Bedelia goes to school for the first time—first day of kindergarten. True to Amelia Bedelia form, she misunderstands much of what her teachers and peers say by taking the literal meaning rather than figurative meaning. (For example, when Miss Edwards tells Amelia Bedelia to glue herself to

her seat, she actually does!)

I personally like this book. I read the Amelia Bedelia books (she was an adult in those books) when I was younger and found them very funny. I think children will like these books even more since she is a child in these stories. These books are also a good way to show that many words have different

meaning when used in different ways.

The Amelia Bedelia series was one of my favorite series when I was growing up. I was happy to see that Herman Parish had created a picture book for a younger audience. The humor is the same and the style of writing is the same as the longer stories that were written for an older audience. This is

an entertaining book to read and I think that it would be great to use as a read aloud in a classroom.

It is about a girl that goes to school. In your class you could talk about first grade experiences and how that affects each student as they really start to do homework and test. You could also take the book and explain how important it is to come to school and do the work. Also, you could discuss

how they can relate to Amelia and her experiences.

I gave this book five stars because children really love reading these books. These books are something fun to read that children can relate to. The illustrators are hilarious and very good. Every child can relate to his or her first day of school and all of the strange things that happens to you

on that day. You don't fit in. You are trying to make new friends. You are getting used to feeling of school and getting used to your new teacher. I remember my first day of school. Three girls in my class wore ladybug suits all alike. I had to glue fruit loops on paper in the shapes of the alphabet in order to learn what my letters were. I knew no one except for my brother and sister, but they were not in my class. You could discuss friendshis, schoolwork, school rules, and being new to an environment with children.

This book was a great book to read on the first day of school with a class. The enthusiastic student loves coming to school and learning new things.

Great upbeat book about a girl going about her first day of school. It can be a good book to read to match up with the theme of the first days of school, but it wasn't anything new or creative. There wasn't much of a plot in the book, it was just about a girl on her perfect day of school.

Amelia couldn't wait for her fist day of school. When her bus arrived her bus driver told them time to jump off so Amelia tried to jump off as fast and far as she could. When Amelia did that she landed on top of the gym teacher. She asked her if she could help her find her teacher and she did. When

Miss Edwards tried handing her, her name tad she quickly ran saying "you can't catch me" The teacher told Amelia to come back we are not playing tag. The teacher then asked Amelia where she would like to sit. This became a hard choice because she liked the pictures, the letters marching across the board, and like the hamster. She liked everything so she sat right in the middle of the classroom. Miss Edwards then called roll, when she Amelia's name was called she said what, but her teacher told her to say it. Amelia thought it was a game so she said should would be it, which made everyone laugh. The teacher then said be quiet as a mouse and I'll read the names of your classmates. Amelia still thought her name was the best. Miss Edwards then placed a lump of clay on each desk and told them to make their favorite animals. Clay then told Amelia that she should be the teachers pet, but she was not happy. She did not want to be anyone pet. She felts like messing up Clay's frog. Miss Edwards then told the students if they had any trouble to wiggle your fingers on that clay. Well Amelia thought the teacher meant her classmate clay. Miss Edwards then told everyone to clean up. Amelia then toured the Library. She then went to gym. It was then lunch time and the lady made her upset because she asked her if she felt like sloppy joe. When they got back from lunch they had art time. Amelia kept getting out of her seat so the teacher told her to glue yourself to your seat and so she did. When it was time to leave the teacher did not understand why she was not getting up. So she walked over there and Amelia told her that she glued her self to the seat. Miss Edwards laughed and helped her get unstuck. She told Amelia a little secret because it was her first day of school as well. They both got Gold stars today.

Personal:
I think this book would be very helpful to children who are going to school for the first time. This book was silly but very informative.

Extension
1. I would read this on the very first day of school.
2. Use this as examples of things you would be doing in school.

a cut modern take on Amelia Bedelia. I think some of the humor was lost on my 4 year old.

Amelia Bedelia was excited about her first day of school. She then goes into her classroom and confuses her name tag with playing the game of tag. She makes friends at recess and they literally jump over the rope verse play jump rope but everyone joins in to her version of the game. When the

teacher tells her to glue herself to the chair she uses the glue to actually glue her self to the chair. Her teacher Mrs. Edwards ask Amelia why she is still there after all the children have left and she tell her she is glued to the chair. Then Mrs. Edwards helps her get out of the chair and tells Amelia it is her first day of school and that tomorrow was going to be a great day.
