This book is basically a synopsis of where Ariel starts off early in the Disney movie. She's obsessed with humans, and goes around collecting all their junk. One day she gets to rescue a handsome prince- she's terribly excited. The end. (No, it really does end there with a "Maybe something exciting

will happen!")

This is a story of a little mermaid who gets into a lot of trouble by falling in love with a human prince. Her father doesn't want her to see him but she does anyway. She loses her voice to the evil Ursula by making a deal with her so she could have legs and be human. Things work out in the end and

This book was made after the movie "The Little Mermaid". Children will enjoy flipping through the pages of this short book summarizing the movie.

This book is about a mermaid who dreams "of the world above the water's surface-the world of humans." One day Ariel the little mermaid swims to a ship filled with sailors. The ship is flipped over and Ariel rescues Prince Eric. This book has an evil witch who tries to overthrow Ariel's dad the King

of the sea and takes away Ariel's voice to keep her from falling in love with the Prince.

I have always liked The Little Mermaid. My favorite part about this book is the end when Ariel's dad turns her into a human and married Prince Eric.

A few ideas for this book are for the class to use their imaginations and draw themselves if they were a mermaid. I would also talk about why this book is considered Modern Fantasy for example one reason is because there is an evil witch in the story.

Summary:
A princess mermaid dreams of being human. Her dad tells her that she needs to forget about it and live in the water. A sea-witch helps her become a human for three days, but the witch medals and complications arise.
Personal Experience:
I read and watched The Little Mermaid when I was little

and imagined what it would be like to be a water princess.
Classroom Extension:
1. Together, my class and I write a story about what it would be to be a mermaid.
2. I would have my classroom set up as water theme and we would talk about fish and other animals in the water.

story of a mermaid who riske it all to become human. Only to find out that she already had everything she needed. An exciting book for the very young.

As a young girl I used to love everything that had to do with The Little Mermaid. However, after reading this book there are a few things that I don't like about it. The first being that even though it is aimed for a younger age group the book jumps around a lot and I felt that this may be hard for
Show More
a young child to follow. The pictures also don't normally match up with the text. For example, in the book when the page talks about Ursula's eels flipping over the boat, it does not show a picture of this. I feel as though the reader would gain more from the book if there were more pictures describing the text. One thing I love about the book is the obvious princess, prince, evil villain characters. These arte typical traits of a traditional fantasy book and remind me of all the books and movies I used to love as a child.

Personal Reaction: This was my daughter’s favorite book/movie. This book has a closed ending as well as a happy fairy tale ending. The setting for this book is ‘under the sea’.

Extension Ideas: 1.The girls could dress up like the mermaid or their favorite character as well as the boys. 2. For one week all books read could pertain to the ocean in some way.

The little Mermaid is by far my favorite classic of all time. She is just a young girl wanting to be grown up and live with the human people. She helps rescue Prince Eric and they fall in love at that moment. Ursula tells Ariel that she will turn her into a human if she gives up her voice. And so
Show More
she does, and Ariel tries everything to tell Eric that she is the one that he has been looking for. At the end, Eric knew it all along and they get married and live happily ever after.

Ariel just wants to be a human, she is tired of living in the sea with no legs to walk on dry ground. Ursula turns Ariel into a human for a small amount of time, and tells her that if she convinces the prince to fall in love with her, then she will remain a human forever. The only catch is that
Show More
Ursula takes her voice away. Ariel agrees and makes her way to dry land. But because she has no voice, convincing the prince that she is the one who saved him is a bit more difficult than she thought. Ursula takes the form of a beautiful woman with Ariel's voice and emerges as the one who saved the prince, and he recognizes her voice. He plans to marry Ursula right away, but not if Sebastian, Ariel's friend the crab has anything to say about it. Ariel gets her kiss from the prince, and gains her voice back immediately. They are married, and live happily ever after.
