A good solid atlas for school age children from grade 3 to grade 8. First published in 2001, so population statistics and country names are mainly from 2000 and 2001.
Each country is shown with geographical regions, principal cities, and some population statistics that can be compared from region

to region. Within Canada and the U.S. there are graphs of ethnic background, including white, black, Hispanic, Asian, and other/Native peoples. International countries have data on life expectancy, compared to Canada's, and the number of people in 100 who own cars. The primary language, religion and currency are shown for each country, as well as the national flag.
Navigation through each section is easier with tab-markings at the top for the continent, and "search and find" references to locate countries and cities on each page with grid references.
Recommended for Canadian elementary school kids.

This atlas has a fantastic "How to Use this Atlas" 2 page introduction. There are also great introductory pages on: making maps, using maps, earth in space, planet earth, plate tectonics, oceans and seas, weather and climate, weathering processes, rock types, water, islands and coastlines, natural

regions (biomes), and earth's resources. After page 40, each country spread is two pages and includes such features as: political map, glossary on p 206 for difficult or important word, "Discover more" sidebar with interesting facts, life facts (including life expectancy), and a fact box which includes area, population language, currency and religion statistics. Colourful flags, representing the country and its provinces/states are also given. There are also statistics on its mountains and rivers and which time zone it's located in and how long it takes to fly there from Ottawa, Canada. It is colourful, easy to use and there is a great balance of pertinent information and presentation. It would be an excellent resource for all school libraries.
