How do Dinosaurs say goodnight explains appropriate and inappropriate bedtime behavior for human children using dinosaurs instead. A good dinosaur gives a big kiss, turn out the light, get under the covers and says goodnight instead of making a big fuss.

The book is about how dinosaurs say good night. Each times it's asking if they sleep with the lights on. Then asks if a dinusaur slams his tail. Then towards the end it says they kiss mom and dad then goes to sleep.

This is a cute little book to read to kindergarten students. It is a book about dinosaurs who are going to bed at night, and it makes children wonder about whether or not they pitch a fit, or jump right into bed at night. It is a great little book to read to children at night who have a hard time

going to sleep when their parents ask them.

I read this book aloud, mainly because it was about dinosaurs and I have a little boy in my group of students. All my students enjoyed reading this book with me. I would constantly ask them how they thought dinosaurs would say good night as we would read through the pages of the book. At the end of the book, it shows how sweet they are about going to bed, and the students liked to talk about how they go to bed themselves.

Awesome, comparing kids to dinosaurs. Dinosaurs go to bed nicely so, so should you.

This is a fabulous book. My son loves it. We read it every night and it helps settle him down before bed. I recommend this to any parent.

Wonderful illustrations and pages that rhyme will captivate students of all ages. Each page features a different dinosaur doing anything it can to keep from going to bed. There is an added level of entertainment since the dinosaurs are having a fit to human parents in human houses.
I think this is a
Show More
very cute book. I would use it in my class when reinforcing rhyme to students. I also think it would be a good book to read just because.

This book quickly runs through various methods children - I mean, dinosaurs - use to try to prolong bedtime, before finally showing the method that children should - and dinosaurs DO - use to go to sleep on time.

The charm is all in the illustrations - don't worry too much about the text.

This book
Show More
is oversized and may be difficult to shelve.

So incredibly cute. I read this book almost every day to the todlers at the day care I used to work at. They loved it and would ask for it all the time. It is also a book they can begin to memorize and read along with you. I think it truley gives good examples to youngsters of how we are expected
Show More
to "say goodnight". I would often refer to the book at nap time. I love all the How Do Dinosaurs books!

Dinos say goodnight with 'Good Manners', which of course is the point of this great bedtime book. It is presented with humor, in rhyme, and with great illustrations. My grandsons love this book; we have read it many, many times.

Pleasant read aloud about bedtime problems. Added bonus is the use of dinosaurs as the main characters. Each one is identified on the end pages, which spurred many of the children to seek additional books about dinosaur from the nonfiction shelves. There are three other "Dinosaur" behavior books in

this series by Jane Yolen--"...Eat Dinner", "...Get Well So Soon", and "...Go to School".

This is a cute example of fantasy. It has real life parents putting dinosaurs to bed. I think the use of human parents would make it more believable to students because they would be able to relate to their parents trying to put them to bed.

A newer picture book that is quickly becoming a classic. The text is simple with a great read aloud quality, and the illustrations are just adorable. Huge dinosaurs squashed into little kids' rooms, stomping and pouting and throwing fits like two year old children. I love the picture of the

Tyrannosaurus Rex "peeking" out of his bedroom door. I bought this book before I had kids because I thought it was great, and I am so delighted that I finally have a chance to read it to my daughter.

This is a good example of fantasy because not only does it include dinosaurs which do not exist anymore, but the dinosaurs also talk and act as humans do throughout the book as they go through their bedtime routine. In this book, their parents are humans which is also why it is fantasy. The
Show More
dinosaur is the main character in the book and it is round as the author goes through possible reactions the dinosaur has when he finds out that it is bedtime, but in the end, the dinosaur does not throw any of the tantrums mentioned in the book. Instead, he says goodnight and gives his parents a kiss.

I used to read this nightly to my daughter when she was 2-3 - not only is this funny and charming, it made our bedtime routine a breeze. She has always been resistant to bedtime (even now at almost-6), but reading this story always seemed to calm her down. Maybe it was seeing and hearing all the
Show More
silly (but much performed by my daughter) behavior these dinosaurs *didn't* gave her a reason NOT to behave in similar ways. I still have the ending memorized, though we've moved on to different stories most nights.

Now, as she's older, she got a kick out of trying to find and sound out the dinosaur names hidden on each page. Nothing better than finding a new way to appreciate an old, beloved book!

This is a great book! It can teach children in a fun way how to say goodnight. Throughoute story, the book discusses what all dinosaurs do not do when their parents tell them its bedtime; such as, pouting, getting angry, crying, begging for a piggy back ride, and more. It says that dinosaurs do not
Show More
behave this way, but they just obey their parents and go to bed. Children love this book because they can identify with it. They may do some of these things that the dinosaurs teach us not to do before going to bed, and by reading this book, they may learn not to behave in those ways. The illustrations are very nice throughout this book!

Another great book featuring my new favorite illustrator. Mark Teague's artistic style is so evident in the illustrations of the book that if you are familiar with him you will not even need his name on the cover to know it is his fabulous work. I am also growing more and more fond of Jane Yolen's
Show More
work and am looking forward to checking out some of their collaborations in the other books of the 'How Do Dinosaurs. . .' series.

Summary: The dinosaurs act just like kids do when getting for bed. They fight it. The dinosaur slam his tale on the ground and throws up a fuss. But then, the dinosaurs end up going to sleep. Response: I like this book because kids could relate to this book leading great discussions. I also like
Show More
that it talks about good and bad behavior with lots of repetition throughout the book. Theme/Connection: Bedtime; Read Aloud; Discussion on going to bed

How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight? examines how dinosaurs go to bed. The book asks many questions throughout. Questions such as "do dinosaurs kick and scream, and stomp all about before going to bed?". The author goes over many different scenarios, many of which are a similar reaction of kids when
Show More
they are told to go to bed. Many do so kicking and screaming. At the end of the book, the dinosaur shows that he just goes to bed without a fuss. He simply gives one last kiss and falls straight to sleep.

Hilarious! A set of examples of very bold dinosaurs refusing to go to bed - followed by the reality of dinosaurs giving nice kisses, tucking in their tails and going to sleep. The art in this is amazing, the frazzled parents, and the dinosaurs with pitch perfect toddler body language under their

My daughter loves this book because of the mischevious looking dinosaurs. This book is great to read to a child before bedtime. We find that we are able to ask our daughter, "Would a dinosaur act like that at bedtime?" it usually makes her smile and say "nooo". I would recommend this book for any

parent looking for a good bedtime book.

Loved it. The story rhymes and the pictures are funny. It was a nice bedtime story about what dinosaurs do when its time to go to sleep. The author made it fun for children.

This book shows children all the different ways a dinosaur can say goodnight. It relates to how humans act sometimes too.
LibraryThing member mmontet
This is a cute rhyming book that shows how children should and should not act when it is time to go to bed. Each page also shows different dinosaurs with each dinosaur's name on the bed.
