Meh. I knew The Tale of Tom Kitten, and find it (have always found it) rather silly - what did she _think_ would happen when she sent them into the garden? The Tale of Jemimah Puddle-duck - she is extremely stupid (Beatrix calls her a "simpleton") and clearly very sheltered. But while the dogs save

her, they eat the eggs...which is very nasty itself. The Tale of Samuel Whiskers is...again, silly (Tabitha is a very poor mother) and also very nasty on multiple levels. The last one, The Tale of Ginger and Pickles, isn't bad - silly, but not bad. Though the end could be seen as rather nasty... My copy of the book has notes under many of the pictures; apparently it was owned by someone who visited Hill Top Farm, and annotated the scenes they recognized, like "the fireplace at Hill Top Farm". I suppose if I had encountered these as a child I might like them better; reading them as an adult, no thanks.
