Kinney has an ear — and eye — for the middle school milieu. For adult readers, he vividly brings back the oceanic feeling of helplessness that swamps most of us at that age when you're not in control of your weirdly changing body, or even what you're allowed to eat or read.

the 4th book starts with greg wanting to spend his summer in doors and playing video games but his mom has other ideas. Greg gets out of school and he plans out that he is going to spend the whole summer indoors and playing video games but his mom tells to do lots of chores instead of playing games
Show More
the whole day for the whole summer. Greg thinks that this might be the worst summer ever but then he thinks that it will get worse because of his mean brother Rodrick. Then Rodrick goes up to Greg and he starts making fun of him and that he has to do lots of chores. Then most of the time he had to do a bunch of stuff and had no time to play any video games

I've recently come to accept that I have the humor of a 6th grade boy. Therefore, getting the latest in the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series was like Christmas to me. And boy did it make me laugh. A lot.

Greg is now on summer break, with his mom promising to make it the best summer ever. Unfortunately,
Show More
his mom's prediction proves to be flawed. Trips to the beach, the pool and starting his own business all prove to be bad ideas.

I read most of the book on the subway and during parts (like the "Reading is Fun" portion) had me laughing so hard I was crying and could barely breathe. Greg's line about what makes a classic novel still makes giggle.

Highly recommended to those who love to laugh.

What a great holiday book! The series are very well known due to its great humor and the way it is written. Jeff Kinney set the book in a great format to make the reader intrigued into the book. Comics, pictures, and a "teenage voice" is all it took to make this book a bestseller.

I recommend this
Show More
book to young readers as it will teach them different styles of writing; a great study tool to writers. On the other hand, it's funny, grabbing, and fun to read! A "must read"!

This book is about a kid named Greg. His vacation is the same thing as his school. But he has more fun than at school. He still has the old friends which is Rowley. His brother is still a pain in the neck.

This was one of my first book that i completed reading because it is so funny and really fun. I think that this book could be enjoyed by any age group because it is interesting.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days is the journaling’s of a young boy as he tells of his summer vacation. He is lazy and disrespectful. He lies to his parents and talks his friend into lying to his parents as well. He doesn’t take responsibility for himself and expects everything to be given to him.
He wants to stay inside and watch television and play video games all summer but his mother wants him to read classic books, spend time with his Dad and friends and play outside. The only fun he finds outside is going to the town pool with his Mom and brother and hanging around the High School female lifeguard.

I found nothing redeeming in this book. It takes all the bad traits of a person and glorifies it for the sake of humor? I didn’t find it humorous or positive in any way. My son loves this series. He was stunned when he was allowed to have it. I believe it opens the door for meaningful conversation. We don’t have to agree on what we like, but as long as we can talk about what we are reading, I think it is good.

I would never encourage students to read this book series, however, since they do we would use it for a lesson on integrity. First, we would define the word. Then, we would look for examples of how Gary didn’t show integrity in his choices. Finally, the students would each take a part of the story where Gary didn’t show integrity and rewrite it with pictures. We would display our projects on the wall for encouragement in good choices.

Greg Heffley describes his school adventures and funny interactions in Dog Days. This unconventional text uses the journal writings of Greg Heffley and his drawings to describe Heffley's summer. Heffley uses comic pictures to inform readers about how Rowley and he begin a yard business.

This book
Show More
is an appropriate resource for elementary school students. The book achieves the reading needs of 4th and 5th graders. Students will also like the comic pictures. This book can be an excellent literary work for less motivated readers, because the journal writings and illustrations accommodate the interests of these students.

Its Summer vacation and Greg Heffley is inside his house, playing video games with the shades drawn.

Greg, a self-confessed "indoor person", is living out his ultimate summer fantasy: no responsibilities and no rules. But Greg's mom has a different vision for an ideal summer...one packed with
Show More
outdoor activities and "family togetherness."

Whose vision will win out? Or will a new addition to the Heffley family change everything?

Book 4 of the series - Greg wants to spend his summer indoors playing video games and watching tv, but his mother has other ideas.

Over all I liked it, and thought that 3 stars is fair. The first three books made me laugh out loud, and they still do. However, Dog Days seems to be missing something. Maybe it's because this book deals with Greg and his summer vacation and the others dealt with school. I don't know, just
Show More
something was missing. Don't get me wrong, this book made me chuckle at parts, but I didn't laugh out loud.

This book deals with Greg and his summer vacation. Over the vacation he deals with his family, birthdays, friends and trying to find a summer job to pay off a bill. In this book, Greg seemed to whine a lot.

Over all, it wasn't bad, just not as funny as the first three.

Greg is stuck paying off 80 bucks to his friend Rowley's dad and does a horrible job of mowing lawns. Could his summer get any worse?

Greg Heffley recounts his daily experiences during summer vacation as he tries to live out his ultimate fantasy of spending the days indoors playing video games with no responsibilities and no rules, despite his mother's attempts to pack the summer with outdoor activities and family fun.

So, when I
Show More
was student teaching in an elementary school library, we literally could not keep this series on the shelf. I knew I needed to read this and be a part of the hype. I get it now. This stuff is hilariously wonderful.

The 4th installment of the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" is here! Greg and his family are back with more wacky stories to tell. This installment is about Greg's summer vacation. This is a book that all humor-loving people shouldn't miss. Personally, I really enjoy this book, but I find it quite short. All
Show More
in all, this is a great book for all ages to read.

My students love this series but I have been hesitant to read them. I have to admit that I found the book quite comical and I can see why my students enjoy them. I also see that they have an influence on my students in their writing. Several of my students used similar techniques (drawing pictures,
Show More
using all capital letters, etc.) in their writing during the school year.

Curricular Connections:

I have my students write in their journals almost daily and I think they would enjoy it more if I let them write in this style.

Greg and Rowly are going together for the summer break but when Greg and Rowly get in to a fight their break is a whole lot worse.

There's a wimpy kid calld Greg and he is writing storys about what happened in his summer. This book is good for people that are bad at writting diary.

After reading the first three 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' books and truly connected to the life of the young boy. Parents, homework, videogames. Some of the most important things in our lives are very emphasized in this book, in some of the best humor ever given by Jeff Kinney. The drawings really made
Show More
the book come to life as we don't even have to imagine it. It's a great book and if you just want to relax, lay back and read. This is the book for you.

This was one of the only books where funny/comics worked. In this case, I think it worked really well. It was one of those books where you can't stop reading it until you've finished the rest of the book and go on to the rest of the series. In my opinion, ranked in the top 10 of my favorite books.
LibraryThing member skstiles612
Greg would love nothing better than to spend his summer inside the house. Especially since his parents have decided they can't afford to go to the beach this summer. Greg's mother on the other hand wants him outside. She comes up with all kinds of activities. She tries a book club and Greg ends up
Show More
being the only one in it. He keeps getting in trouble with the parents of his best friend Rowley. It seems like the more Greg tries to have fun his way the more trouble finds him. Once again Jeff Kinney has created a book that the kids love. I actually had to purchase two copies so that I could read one of them. I had a deadline though since I have three other student names on the list to read it next. I definitely recommend the Diary of a Wimpy Kid Series to my students. The funny thing is I probably would not have picked it out. My dyslexic husband was with me at a book store when he saw it and told me if they'd had books like that when he was young and struggling he probably would have read more. I am so glad he was there to recommend it. I can't keep them on my shelves.
