A masterpiece! Full of joy, heartache, laughter, tears, hairballs, naps and all the other things that make life truly meaningful. The author has some truly hilarious things to say about dogs, too! We laughed and laughed and laughed and then we took a nap. I haven't laughed that hard since I read
Show More
Old Yeller. Can one ask for anything more from a book? Will go on the shelf alongside such immortal classics as I Am A Cat, The Fur Person, The Cat's Table and, of course, The Tale of Tom Kitten. Read it and pee.

I Could Pee on This by Francesco Marciuliano is the first in a set of short poetry books from the perspective of our pets. The others are I Could Chew on This (a book of dog poetry), and I Knead My Mommy.

The book features beautiful photographs of cats and kittens and poems that explore our
Show More
on-and-off relationship with felines. These poems are written to take the perspective of the cats and so feature thoughts on territory, food, hunting, and a general bafflement at humanity's often less than enthusiastic response to normal behavior.

As the book is short in stature and page count, it can be read in a single sitting, or leisurely over a couple of nights of reading before bed. The vocabulary is simple enough and the humor silly enough to appeal to beginning readers as well.

Although I bought the book when it was first released, it took me nearly two years to get a chance to read it. My daughter, then a beginning reader, snatched up the book on the car ride home and kept it under her pillow for bedtime reading for eighteen months!

Why are you reading this review? You should not waste another moment on this or any other thing, but pick up a copy of I Could Pee on This and start reading it aloud to anyone and everyone, including those creatures with “wittle” furry faces. This book of poems illustrates with charming
Show More
insights and humor the essence that is “Cat.” You will learn that you are not the only one whose cat deposited a dead mouse on your bed. (The one my cat brought me was most alive and uninjured, so consider yourself lucky that you didn’t have to chase down the dead one, just dispose of it.) You will learn how cats express love – often in painful ways – to their humans. You’ll discover the cuteness that only cats can convey with their antics. Whether they are chasing themselves in a mirror, claiming their territory, bathing while sitting on you, or walking across the room without touching the floor, cats are in charge. Get used to it. This gem of a book will help you understand a cat’s life from a cat’s viewpoint, and really, what more do you need to know? The delightful photos are just icing on the cake or maybe catnip on the kibble. This is a book you will want to own and read over and over. But don’t let your cat pee on it.

Adorable poems from the perspective of a cat. I know two frisky felines that could have been responsible for a few of these! I'm certain Ellie is convinced she has a twin cat in the mirror and Tiny LOVES to yell at us through a closed door!

In this small book, Francesco Marciuliano who has written comics and for the Onion, writes poems from a cat's perspective, covering Family, Work, Play, and Existence in four chapters and 111.

The poems are humorous, and the photographs are adorable. If you like cats, you will most likely recognize
Show More
and laugh at their behavior and possible thought processes in the poems. If you don't like cats, I think I'm not going out on a limb to say you won't like this book and will probably scratch your head as to why anyone would pay money for this book. Fortunately, I'm in the former camp (most of the time), so I enjoyed the read. If you're undecided, here's one of the gems: "I lick your nose / I lick your nose again / I drag my claws down your eyelids / Oh you're up? Feed me" (15). I found the haiku on sushi rather clever, too.

As a cat person, I liked the cute pictures and the humor of these poems. Unfortunately, I found the poetry itself mediocre.
LibraryThing member DoingDewey
You can probably tell this already from the title, but this book was both adorable and hilarious. Although these were definitely not your typical poems, they were still quite well written. The cadence imposed by the line breaks and the placement of the words on the page were used very effectively
Show More
to guide you through each poem to the punch line. Each poem briefly takes you into the mind of a cat for one typical cat moment. Did moving confuse your cat? Well, now there’s a poem to help you understand their sense of lose and confusion. Does your cat desperately want through a door… until you open it? There’s a poem for that too. And familiar to even non-cat owners, thanks to youtube, there are also poems for the cat who destroys your toilet paper roll and for the cat who deliberately knocks things off the counter – just to watch them fall. Very funny and very enjoyable read.

A fun collection of cat poems that feline afficionados will certainly appreciate.

I’m waiting for my cat Shadow to approach me with his royalty check because I believe strongly that he wrote many of the poems in this short hilarious volume. He’s been using my keyboard for years, why not?

Which poems did he write? They aren’t directly attributed, but I believe (based on the
Show More
current state of my desk) “Nudge” was definitely penned by him.

I had to be careful to keep it away from the kitten and not to read any of the poems out loud in front of him because I didn’t want him to get any new ideas, though based on our new morning routine he may have written “I Lick Your Nose”.

I recommend this as a fun gift for the cat lover in your life.

Cute poems written as if by cats. If you are someone who lives with cats, or, indeed, a cat, you will appreciate the humour. Personal favourite: Self-Affirmation. We all need a bit more of that kind of attitude.. :-)
LibraryThing member martensgirl
I didn't find this book amusing. The poems are not really very funny.
LibraryThing member ladycato
This was a Christmas present and it made for a quick, amusing read to end the year. Really, the best word to sum up the book is "cute." The poems are simple, whimsical, and fully intended to be humor that cat lovers will immediately get. No deep, analytical poetry here. Instead, you get gems that
Show More
make you smile like "I Lick Your Nose:"

I lick your nose
I lick your nose again
I drag my claws down your eyelids
Oh, you're up? Feed me

There are various mentions of urine and I recall one mention of sex, but it's a read that would probably be suitable for tweens on up. The only real requirement is that you're familiar with cats. This is one of those books I'll lend to family so they can pass it around and smile.

What's it about: Poems supposedly written by cats.

Why did I read it: I saw it in a bookstore and liked the concept.

Favorite idea: Meh. It was entertaining, but didn't ring quite so true to my own experience with cats. Not all cats are egocentric jerks.

I typically do not do poetry.....however, having received this as a gift and being a serious cat lover, i broke my own rule and actually plowed through this during breakfast!! Silly, clever, insightful and totally understandable to a non-poetry guy such as myself. There were at least 5
Show More
laugh-out-loud moments...and the accompanying photos made much of it even better. I am even adding a new tag for use in my LT library, but it may likely be the only one that ever shows up. Thank you Norman!

I think the title says it all. If you've ever owned a cat, you know they can be the sweetest things ever or the devil incarnate. Sometimes a little of both. These poems will definitely put a smile on your face.

For National Poetry Month, I decided to add to my poetry collection. I bought E.E. Cummings Complete Poems 1904-1962. I also bought an anthology of Somali poetry and Rock and Roll poetry, Sweet Nothings, featuring writers like Joyce Carol Oates. In addition, I couldn't resist adding to my
Show More
collection this little gem. The title and cover alone were worth it. I'm not even a cat person. I'm allergic to cats, so I have dogs. But, I do enjoy the mystery of cats, the curiosity of cats, and the wonder in general that they seem to have about the world. These poems capture those qualities and ever so much more. I highly recommend it for a fast, fun, laugh-out-loud, oh-now-I-get-it read!

A delightful little book that was sent to my store cats, Shakespeare and Rembrandt! They enjoyed it of course! They also thank the author for kindly thinking of them!

The poems are great. Everybody who has cats can enjoy this book, not only if you have them, but if you know them you can enjoy the poems and can find the charm of the cats in this book. Highly recommended. Too bad that is so short, but the pictures are also amazing.
LibraryThing member sweetiegherkin
This book is, as the title indicates, a book of poetry written from the perspective of our feline pets. These short poems are grouped into four broad topics - family, work, play, and existence - although there is arguably overlap and fudging in the classifications. Most of the poems are illustrated
Show More
with photographs of cats up to mischief or being cute (or both). Some of the poems are just so-so, but others are laugh-out-loud funny, such as "Busy, Busy":

It's 8A.M. and time to rest
It's 10A.M. and time to relax
It's noon and time for repose
It's 3P.M. and time for shut-eye
It's 6P.M. and time for siesta
It's 9P.M. and time to slumber
It's midnight and time to snooze
It's 4A.M. and time to hang upside down from your bedroom ceiling, screaming

This book is sure to be a treat for cat lovers, who can laughingly commiserate with the poems it contains and endearingly "aww" at the photographs.

This is a really cute book of poems written by cats, or perhaps by a human who really knows cats! There are four chapters dividing the subject matter into family, work, play, and existence, as well as some cute pictures of cats and kittens. I received this as a gift and recommend giving it to your

cat-loving friends.

I Could Pee on This: And Other Poems by Cats by Francesco Marciuliano

★★★

Another pretty self-explanatory book. It’s a collection of poems from a cat’s point of view. This was a super fast book to read, taking me maybe 20 minutes to mosey through it. The poems are short and there
Show More
are plenty of pictures. It is cute enough. The poems were charming but not particularly memorable and only a few got a genuine smile out of me. The pictures of the cats are also adorable. A quick, fun read for a cat fan but probably best checked out from the library than purchasing it in my opinion.

from my library's catalog: Poems penned by cats reveal their every desire, their every conflict, and their every moment of neurotic genius. my thoughts: My cousins just bought me this book for Christmas. I literally sat on the couch at my Aunt's house and finished the book in one sitting. We were
Show More
all laughing hysterically at the antics in the poems. So many of them reminded us of stunts our cats have pulled in the past. My favorite poem is a haiku called Sushi". My cat has done this more times than I care to admit to: Did you really think
That you could hide fish in rice?
Oh, the green paste burns! (The green paste doesn't look so hot in the litter box either to be honest). Thanks, girls, I will definitely be re-reading this one!"

If you're only going to receive one book for Christmas, it had better be a good one. Funny, with cats in is a good bet. Thanks, Sweetie.

A number of the poems are hilarious and I could almost believe they were written by my cat. Many of the other poems were mediocre. Still, a fun little book.
