Holly Cathers's world shatters when her parents are killed in a terrible accident. Wrenched from her home in San Francisco, she is sent to Seattle to live with her relatives, Aunt Marie-Claire and her twin cousins, Amanda and Nicole.

In her new home, Holly's sorrow and grief soon give way to bewilderment at the strange incidents going on around her. Such as how any wish she whispers to her cat seems to come true. Wicked is a supernatural story about witches and warlocks in our ordinary society. Starring in the story is orphan Holly Cathers, who loses her parents and best friend in a tragic boat accident and comes to live with her aunt and uncle and her fraternal twin cousins in Seattle. Also living in
Show More
Seattle is the Deveraux family, who are wizards and well aware of their magic and their history. This family has been in constant war with the Cathers family since the middle ages, and has been picking off members of the Cathers family for years since then. Holly and her cousins don’t know any of this, but if they’re to live, they’re going to learn about it and fast. It’s a story of mystery, lots of murder attempts, action, and a blend of the past and the present histories of the two families and how they’re intertwined.

Wicked is all about conflicted heroes and their battles against dark forces. The main character Holly is probably the most pronounced hero, followed by Jer Deveraux the supporting character. Holly starts off as a young, naïve character who only wants to be good, but in growing stronger and with so much pressure on her, she’s beginning to make sacrifices that are toeing the line between good and bad. She constantly has to fight for those she cares about, and is always having to decide just how far she’s going to go to protect those things. Jer, however, started off as a conflicted hero from the dark side, and he knows what he’s going to do to be good again. He’s luckier, since he knows his limits and what to avoid where Holly doesn’t, but he also has less protection than Holly does from being used by darkness. Almost all the characters in this novel are in some way struggling to be heroes and to do the right thing, and their journeys are what defines them from supporting heroes to leading ones.

I liked the novel, because it was an interesting enough story, though probably more meant for teenagers from the ages of 11-15. It wasn’t terribly challenging, so don’t read this if you like a story where you have to think hard to solve the main plotline. However, things did move at a pretty quick rate, and there are plot twists to keep older readers a bit more entertained. I think this novel is great for the right age group. For the rising teenagers, this book should be read by them. For the older teenagers 16-18, they can read this book but probably won’t get as much enjoyment out of it. For anyone older, I definitely don’t see them enjoying this book. For my senior class, I’d say we shouldn’t read it, since this book isn’t really meant to entertain us.

This is an amazing series about witches and warlocks and all types of magic and romance. It's set in Seattle, which is a very rainy, very magic city. I loved these books, and i couldn't believe it when they ended so abruptly, and they stopped writing them a while ago so i don't think they're going

to continue.

Witch by Nancy Holder - I enjoyed this, however going back in forth in time confused me at times in the story. But overall it was a descent read.
Curse by Nancy Holder - Well in Curse I think I was a little more used to her writting style because I enjoyed it. Not as much as some others that I have
Show More
read but am willing to start Wicked 2. Overall it was a descent story. Following, Amanda, Nicole & Holly all the way through should prove interesting in the Cahors/Deveraux fued.

I really enjoyed these books, I felt like they could be easily be turned into t.v episodes. I thought that both started off kind of slow, but as they continued it started to get better, although if you didn't know Curse was part of a series, you would be left scratching your head.Unlike Witch, book

one, could be read as a stand alone. And in my opinion was the better of the two so far.

I couldn't stand this book or the series. I liked it when there were flashbacks to the past, but that's it. Otherwise, I thought the characters had no depth to them and the plot was all over the place. Run in to trouble, run away from it, it was ridiculous. I lost track and the romantic lead was
Show More
brooding and pouty, like a child, not like a bad boy. They were the first to go when I weeded out my books.

In Holder's and Viguie's novel, Holly Cather's world shatters when her parents are killed in an accident. Taken from her San Francisco home, she is sent to Seattle to live with her Aunt Marie-Claire and her twin cousins, Amanda and Nicole. Soon, sorrow and grief gave way to bewilderment at the

strange things happening around her. Such things like every wish whispered to her cat comes true; a friend is injured by a falcon; and her odd attraction to a boy Holly hardly knows. The three young girls are about to be launched into a dark legacy of witches, secrets, and alliances, where ancient magics yield negative results. The girls will take their place in an intergenerational feud and attempt to fulfill their shared destiny. A captivating series.

I wasn't a fan of this book. I found it hard to keep my interest and I have the next couple books to read in the series but I don't know if I want to try and read them as well.

I have to say Ive read a lot of witch books but none that are so dark and that have so much dark magic in it. I really enjoyed it though.
In Witch while I found the book confusing at first, because it seemed to switch from one POV to another with no warning, I still loved the story. Holly is a
Show More
likeable character and even though Jer Deveraux is one of the bad guys I still really liked him.
In Curse its everything Witch was but more!! This time I wasn't confused at all and the story flowed really well. After the events of Witch Holly is a changed girl and everything gets much darker for her. All of her coven are changing, Nicole for the better and I found myself finding it hard to put it down. Id recommend this for people who likes Witches but want there books a bit darker.

I have had this book on my shelves probably since 2009, I finally decided it was time to read it and I’m not sure how I feel about it.

I really liked the first book, Witch. I was having a lot of fun reading it and I was enjoying it more than I expected to. It’s not the best story, but sometimes
Show More
you just need some older YA paranormal in your life. Especially since that is pretty much where I started when I first got into reading.

The second book, Curse, unfortunately wasn’t as good. I was very disappointed and even got angry at one point. If you are like me and you love animals, either stay away from this series or just be prepared. Both Witch & Curse have animal sacrifices, but the second book is a bit worse. It made me so angry I almost didn’t finish the book. However, I was so close to the end, and I still have the rest of the series on my shelf, so I picked it back up and finished it.

Since I did I enjoy the first part, I will be continuing on with the series. Hopefully it gets better. Although I am really disliking Holly, so I don’t know how well this is going to go.

When I started this book it was confusing but once I got part the first chapter I pulled an all nighter without knowing it just to finish this book.

It was a bunch of pretty writing for a very boring plot. I couldn't finish it. :/
