I personally love hte illustrations in this book as the pigs have little rosy cheeks. The story line is a great one about the lesson that being first isn't always best. My favorite character is the sand witch and I would love to dress up as her for Halloween some year.

Pinkerton Pig is all about being first. He always insists on being first, no matter what it is. When Pinkerton went to the beach with his troop members, he definitely wanted to be first. Get off the bus first, swim first, eat first and more. So when someone yells out “who would care for a

sandwich,” everyone knows who is going to be there first: Pinkerton Pig. Will he get the sandwich or will he learn his lesson?

The story will go on to teach the readers a lesson about wanting to be first. The moral of this story is that first is not always good and it provides Pinkerton as an example. The describing words are mostly everyday words or popular words, easy for young readers.

The illustrations perfectly describe Pinkerton and his actions to the readers. Pinkerton’s facial expressions show the readers his emotions. His small eyes and rosy complexions makes him so lovable, the readers will not be able to hate him. The watercolors also provide softness to Pinkerton and his actions.

This can be a great classroom book to teach about being first and its perks and disadvantages. They will learn about being selfish and what can happen to selfish children.

This was a cute story about a pig who always had to be first and the lesson that he learned from meeting a sandwitch and accidentally agreeing to care for her through a little wordplay. Pretty good story. Excellent for a younger audience.

Of course there's a lesson to be learned; the book (in some editions) is part of a set called Laugh Out Loud Lessons." But it is indeed told humorously, with adorable illustrations."

Pinkerton is a rude pig who cuts in front of others and yells "me first" repeatedly. He always manages to be first, until he rushes for a sandwich and gets a surprise. Pinkerton learn that being first isn't always best.
