I pretty much adore the energetic antics of princess Jill, born to the king and queen who reside in a stuffy old palace. The premise of this story makes me wonder what it was like when Theodore Roosevelt moved his family and all those pets into the White House. I bet there was a lot of worry AND

joy.

When the newborn princess Jill is introduced to a joyous, unnamed kingdom, it’s all cheers and happiness. Very soon, the king and queen discover that their little princess can’t be tamed. Rather she is constantly bounding and twirling around throne room, the kitchens and the gardens, to the great dismay of the staff.

This lovely picture book displays tiny Jill’s paths denoted and marked in a heavy red line over amusing illustrations. What to do? Well, the royals consult various experts of the land—witches, warlocks, wise men who all make the same diagnosis. Princess Jill can’t be still!

The “experts” proceed to prescribe a series of ineffective treatments. What finally solves the dilemma is the introduction of another little royal from a different kingdom. Enter just as rambunctious, Pablo, who is perpetually bouncing up to the chandeliers, just like Jill.

But, WAIT! The story of Jill abruptly ends there, leaving readers wondering how they dealt with two overactive children. I guess it’s how we all dealt with our own children.

No message here, just a fun read.
