This book is an informational text all about volcanoes. It includes what a volcano is, what causes volcanoes and eruptions, the story of how Crater Lake became what it is, the Ring of Fire, what makes hot spots, what makes the geysers at Yellowstone National Park, etc.
Critique (Genre): This is a

great example of an informational text for kids first off because the text matches the photographs on the page. It is easy for kids to read and comes from National Geographic, which is a credible source. There is enough information for kids to start to really understand volcanoes and to give them a broad basis, but not too much to overwhelm or confuse them.

This book has great information about volcanoes. It relates to lots of children and uses common places for kids to relate to (Hawaii, most kids have some prior knowledge). As well the pictures chosen for this book help students see real life examples and not cartoon pictures. Another important

piece of this book is the text features; their is an index, word boxes glossary and pull out information.
