Description

When zombies take over Phoenix, Arizona, Zack Clarke, his best friend Rice, and his older sister's mean friend Madison Miller team up to try to defeat the undead, or at least survive one another.

Description

"An irreverent illustrated chapter book that features a ton of gore and zombie mayhem, but portrayed in such a cartoony, over-the-top style that it will make kids chuckle more than scream." (Brightly.com)

This is the first book in the heavily illustrated Zombie Chasers series by John Kloepfer. This fan-favorite is perfect for reluctant readers as well as fans of Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Dork Diaries.

A sudden zombie epidemic has turned a sleepover at Zack Clarke's house into a level three creep-over! Zack's sister is now a zombie; his living dead, flesh-eating neighbors have wrecked his house; and he's been left to fend them off with his sister's snotty BFF, Madison. Luckily Zack's nerdy pal Rice has a plan to defeat the undead... if these three zombie chasers can make it out alive.

Featuring John Kloepfer's signature hilarious and gory descriptions and Steve Wolfhard's hysterical black and white interior illustrations, this is an uproarious, gore-streaked kick-off to the ever-popular Zombie Chasers series!

My kids and I read a few chapters a night until we finished this and we all enjoyed the storyline. My kids have already asked me to start over reading it again.

This is the story kids tell to out-scare each other. Consistant logic is unnecessary. It is an attempt to combine "Tales of a Wimpy Kid" with Shawn of the Dead. It fails.

Zack comes home one evening to a houseful of girls, his sister Zoe and her friends. He calls his friend, Rice, complain about the situation. Zack just doesn't realize that things are going to get much, much worse!

Zoe's friends manages not to become one. Zack calls Rice again to find out what to do. Rice who lives in another neighbor and has excaped the zombie epidemic. Rice is a zombie expert and advises that his friend better escape from his house.

Zombie Chasers is a series which should appeal to middle school readers who are into the zombie craze. The characters are pretty one dimensional but they are entertaining. It is a nonstop adventure of trying to save his sister Zoe from being killed by the Army and trying to get to safety.

The gross factor is high, with black and white illustrations of zombies. This should also appeal to middle school students. It is a quick read and I had fun with it. I think that those youngsters who are eager to read zombie literature like everyone else will enjoy this series. For those who like the first book, they will be happy to know book 2 is already out.
