While I really love the concept of this book, I must confess a little disappointment in the actual poems. Some are better than others, but all feel a little too strictly factual to count as "poetry." A closer definition would be a list of facts that rhyme. However, "Warning: Shark" had an artistic

line of "All the things that man can make/from ancient seas the shark can take." Several others contain enough thematic material to qualify as a mentor text, but many are just playful riddles. This is a book that would be nice to have available before/after a trip to the aquarium, but would probably not be chosen for a unit on poetry in light of its many competitors.
