While following their mother through town, five little ducklings fall into a storm drain.

Description

An engaging and charming true rescue story illustrated by a Christopher Award winner! Early one morning, Mama Duck takes her babies for a walk. They follow safely behind her as they leave their pond, waddle through the park, and stop in the little sunlit town's parking lot for yummy breakfast. But one by one, Mama's little ducklings get separated when they disappear into the slats of the town's storm drain. How three firemen and a pickup truck rush to their rescue makes for a vivid and exciting drama that children will return to over and over again. Award-winning artist Nancy Carpenter and veteran author Eva Moore have created a delightful new classic with an inspiring environmental message.

Charming true story of five ducklings that fall into a storm drain and are rescued. Great illustrations with some respectful nods to Robert McCloskey.

This is a terrific book for a primary-level read aloud, with predictable text, just enough suspense and danger to keep kids on the edge of their seats, gentle humor, and a very satisfying ending. Even better: this is a true story. A mama duck and her five ducklings (Pippin, Bippin, Tippin, Dippin,
Show More
and last of all, Little Joe) leave the park and head into town. But as they go, the ducklings fall one by one through a storm drain grate and are trapped. At each significant moment in the story, the text reads,"Oh dear! That could have been the end of the story. But it wasn't, because..." The simple narrative and beautiful illustrations detail the town coming together to solve the problem and rescue the duckings. A note on the title page tells the real-life inspiration for this lovely picture book.

Curriculum: good for EL/crew character education -- compassion. Also a nice focus on cooperation: the whole town comes together to solve the problem and rescue the ducklings.

This is a wonderful ( based on a true story) book for younger readers . A mama duck and her five ducklings leave the park and head into town. But on the way there, the ducklings fall one by one through a storm drain grate and are trapped. Who is going to save them? The whole town joins forces and

comes to the rescue. This book sets a good example of team work.

This is another greatly illustrated book. The ducks (and ducklings) remind me of feeding the ducks at the rhododendron gardens with my grandma when I was young. Looks like it could have been done with colored pencil and then filled in with water colors perhaps..?

This is a charming story that brings nature and city life together brought on by an event that forces the two pairs to work together. One morning, a mother duck takes her brood of ducklings for a walk. As they were walking, the group of ducks came upon a storm drain. The mother duck easily

navigated across the drain; though this became an obstacle for the ducklings. There was a person nearby whom noticed the emergency and began notifying emergency personnel to assist with the rescue. Civilians were alarmed by the commotion and began forming a rescue group. Once the ducklings were rescued, the mother joined her babies and resumed their stroll.
I find this to be a lovely tale that makes the reader reflect on their humanity. This tale is a great example of common people's willingness to offer their assistance in a moment of crisis; in this case, the helplessness of the ducklings. It frames the condition of the human spirit.
