Description

"Stella and Tom's quest to solve the riddle of their neighbour's disappearing dog over the summer holidays soon leads to a boat buried under a grassy mound - and a tunnel that takes them to a secret lake. Who is the boy rowing towards them who looks so terrified? And whose are those children's voices carried on the wind from beyond the woods? Stella and Tom soon discover that they have travelled back in time to their home and its gardens almost 100 years earlier. Here they make both friends and enemies, and soon find themselves in deeper trouble than they ever could have imagined?"--Publisher description.

Very good story for kids. The plot is exciting, the characters are well developed, most characters are very good likable kids or adults. lots of suspense and some danger.
There's an element of time travel similar to the Magic Treehouse series.
The author has emphasized moral character in the

characters which aids in their courage to do the right thing and defend others.

I rate it just below a 5 because the ending devolves into a somewhat complex interconnection between characters and even the dog and caretaker.
That ending could make it a little of a stumble for kids just below the target age of about 8 to 11.

This book could enhance a kids social and morality learning rate as well as be an exciting summer or rainy day read for the 8 to 11 year old kids..
