His books always hit just the right, realistic note.

We really love the part in this book where Archie declares that HIS pet is a GERM. I can see a real child doing just that :)

Definitely check out Keats' books if you haven't before, and for sure you want to get *this* one.

K-2. This story is about a little boy who cannot find his pet for the Pet Show. He looks everywhere so he decides that he is going to enter his pet germ in the pet show. His germ won the quietest pet award which made him very proud. After he received his award, a woman walks up with his cat and a

judge mistakes the cat to be hers which was really the little boy's lost cat and she was given the blue ribbon.

The characters in this story embark on an adventure to find Archie's cat in time for the community pet show. After looking everywhere and not being able to find the cat, the characters use their imagination to bring new and unique animals to the pet show. This story portrays a sense of community by
Show More
showing how sharing, working together, and being happy for one another makes everyone a winner. This story provides a good text to picture ration and the illustrations help beginning readers be able to follow the text. The experiences throughout the story are relatable to all children.

For children who like animals, this is a great book for them to read. The book starts out with a group of friends who are going to the Pet Show. Everyone is talking about what pet they are going to bring. A little boy named Archie wants to bring his cat but it is no where to be found. Everyone gets
Show More
a prize for bringing a pet. At the last second, an older woman walks up with the cat and she gets a blue ribbon. Archie brings a germ in a glass as his pet. Archie and the old woman talk for a moment and she asks him if the cat is his. The book ends with everyone receiving a prize. I believe that this book has a lesson to teach because it shows that while everyone brought different things, everyone got a prize too. This would be a book suitable for second or third graders in my opinion.

Pet Show is about a little boy who owns a cat and wants to put him in the pet show in his hometown. All of his friends bring their animals and right when they show up, his cat runs away and he can't find it. After all of his friends win awards and the show is almost over, the little boy comes
Show More
running up to the judges and says he has one more prize. There was a jar with nothing in it and told the judges it was a germ and he received the 'quietest animal' award. Later he found his cat and an old woman was standing next to it and received an award because the judges thought it was hers. The little boy let the old woman keep the award.

This book is about a group of children who all enter their pets in a pet show. This would be a great book to read leading up to a time where all students brought their favorite item from home and shared with the other students why it is their favorite. This would be a fun activity and it would
Show More
allow students to engage in conversation and share with one another. The illustrations in the book are very original and students would like them.

At the pet show, the judges gave out awards. Archie still had not found the cat. Just when the show was almost over Archie ran in with his new pet. It was in a jar. Archie decided to make up his pet. He brought a germ. When the judge was getting ready to give Archie his award, the cat showed up with an old lady. They awarded the old lady an award for Archie's cat. He didn't mind. They gave Archie an award for the quietest pet. He told the old lady to keep the ribbon. The cat went home with Archie.

The story, "Pet Show!" was a story about a pet show in a small town. The little boy wanted to put his cat in the pet show but could not find his cat anywhere. He looked and looked while his friends went on to the pet show. The line at the pet show was very long, and people were already winning

ribbons when the little boy ran up with a bag. No one knew what he had in the bad and when he opened the bag he told the judges he brought his pet "a germ." The judges loved his pet and gave him the quietest pet award.

"Pet Show" is a cute book about a neighborhood pet show where every pet gets a prize. Archie had planned on bringing a local stray cat, but when the cat doesn't turn up anywhere Archie is forced to improvise.

Summary: The neighborhood is having its very own pet show and every kid around is excited to start competing. This includes a young boy named Archie who unfortunately has a problem; his pet, his cat is missing. With everyone else getting awards, Archie soon gets an idea and decides to enter a very
Show More
special pet in a jar; a germ. This earns Archie the award for having the quietest pet. Not long after that, an elderly woman appears with Archie's cat and wins a ribbon. Being a good sport, Archie lets her keep the prize, but he took back his cat.

Personal Reaction: Yet another book from my childhood, I always thought it to be really fun. The pictures are great and really work well with the setting of the story.

Classroom Extension Ideas:

1. Have children bring photographs of their pets to show and share with everyone.

2. Let the students draw pictures of any kind of animal they might want as a pet; any kind of animal at all. Then display the drawings on the wall.

This book is about a small pet show put together by all the neighborhood people. Kids bring all kinds of animals from dogs, to ants and even germs! This would be a great book for story time.
