Incredible. Colleen Hoover is one of those authors that you never get tired of reading. Auburn and Owen's story was touching and heartbreaking and I absolutely couldn't put this book down. The subtle mystery aspect of Owen's confession made the story even more intriguing and Colleen's signature

humor was spread throughout. Loved this one and, as always, can't wait for the next CoHo book!

Another absolutely incredible story from Colleen Hoover with characters and a storyline that grab you from the very first page. Once I started this one I simply couldn't put it down. I highly recommend it to everyone.

This is the story of Auburn and Owen. And what a story it is. This is a story that will stay with you for a long time. It is enthralling, heartbreaking and heartwarming. This is my second favorite book of Colleen's. This one is right up there with Slammed.

Auburn is just trying to survive. She
Show More
takes things one day at a time. She works hard to build a future after her future has passed. Things in life have not gone in her favor. Her love passes away. People have walked over her and taken advantage of her for their own personal gain.

Owen is the mysterious artist. The guy with a huge heart and a lot of secrets. He is drawn to Auburn. They have crossed paths in the past, but he keeps that information to himself. His new goal is to get close to Auburn, help her move forward.

These two characters have a larger connection to one another that we first realize... Well, really, we don't see the connection until later on. I found myself trying to put the pieces together. Never had I imagined that their crossed paths would have such a strong bond on their current relationship. Even though they, more-so Auburn, don't see it or understand it, but they held together by that chance encounter so many years ago.

This book is beyond brilliant. Between the real confessions, the secrets, the lies, the manipulation, the redemption... This is one of those heartfelt books that you simply cannot love.

Just loved this book. The writing is excellent and the pace and flow of the story is perfect. Auburn and Owen have crossed paths before, but only Owen knows. They meet again several years later and despite Auburn's misgivings and personal issues, they connect in a lovely way.
Auburn has moved to
Show More
Texas and works as a haircutter (there's a wonderful scene where a drunk Auburn cuts Owen's hair). Owen is a successful artist who takes peoples' anonymous confessions and paints them. They must work through several issues to find a happy ending, but the story is very believable and relatable. They are nice people and you root for them all the way. A very satisfying and romantic story.

There's one thing that I love about Hoover's books, and it's that they make me FEEL. I know anything I read by her will have an impact on my emotions: good, bad, sad, hopeful. She knows just how to aim at your heart strings. Confess is no different.

Auburn is a character that has been emotionally
Show More
beat down for years. The people she has been forced to surround herself around are completely heinous. They use whatever they can in order to keep her right where they want her. She doesn't believe that she deserves anything better than what she's dealing with right now. Owen helps others out when they should probably help themselves more. He knows he's only enabling them, but can't find it in his heart to tell them no. He is taken aback when Auburn walks into his studio, and can't keep himself from wanting to be a part of her life.

I really can't tell you a lot of the main points because... spoilers. And let's be real, those suck. I will say that the inspirations behind Owen's paintings are amazing and heartbreaking. I love that the images are also included in the book. We get to see them brought to life. This story is heart-wrenching in so many ways. You want to feel hope, but there are so many times where you just feel defeated, for both Auburn and Owen. You loathe the people that put Auburn down, and hope that she can overcome the many obstacles to achieve her ultimate goals.

While Confess isn't as heartbreaking as previous books it will definitely leave you feeling all the emotions.

Confess by Colleen Hoover
Audio narrated by Elizabeth Louise & Sebastian York

Auburn Mason Reed has recently moved from Portland to Dallas for reasons tied to her past. She is working as a cosmetologist, a job she hates, in order to pave the way for a better life she is trying to create. On a whim,
Show More
she stops in front of an art gallery named "Confess" and studies the multitude of handwritten personal confessions people have left. Looking for a second job, she answers the help-wanted sign posted on the door. She doesn't realize the artist inside is going to change her life.

Owen Mason Gentry recognizes Auburn immediately when she enters his gallery, although he knows she won't recognize him. There is a mystery which flows throughout this story as to how their lives are connected. He pretends their connection is based on the fact they share a middle name and tells her it just might be fate. She is saddened when she learns from a family friend that Owen Gentry is someone she should not be spending time with. He's not good for her. He could be dangerous. Her heart tells her differently but she cannot afford to make bad choices.

This was a very well-developed story about two self-sacrificing people who find love with each other. Their lives have twists and turns and malignancies which threaten their path to happiness but ultimately weaves back around to a surprising and satisfying conclusion.

My thoughts on the narration: Both narrators were good overall. They switched back and forth from Auburn's perspective in one chapter to Owen's in the next; however, it was jolting when the female narrator was reading her chapter and would speak in the male voices and then it would switch to the male narrator. This type of writing, I think, may have been better suited to just reading the book myself rather than listening to audio. I had to adjust with each new chapter as it took me out of the story.

The romance between Owen and Auburn is the central part of the story; however there is Trey and Adam, who is dead but takes part of the story as if he is still alive. Colleen´s stories are very creative and rich. She creates a perfect environment around the characters what makes them look real and
Show More
palpable.
At the beginning you don´t understand why Auburn and Owen are so resistant to admit their love; it´s so slow that you think they will never be together. Owen has many secrets, and keep them from Auburn, you won´t discover what really happens until the last chapter.
There´s a lot of drama. Colleen could have explored it more. She failed in the process ‘show, don´t tell’. Many parts of the book are told, not showed. Lack of emotion is an issue too; it turns the story a little boring and makes it just another sad story with a happy ending.
The characters are superficial; it´s hard to have a connection with them. Due to the secrets, sometimes is hard to understand what´s going on. Sometimes I screamed mentally “Why are you so idiot? Do something!” Their lack of initiative enraged me.
I enjoyed reading the book because the characters are very real; I´ve known many people like them; people that are manipulated and just can´t do anything to change it. It´s very sad.
It is a good book, but not an exceptional one. It disappointed me; after reading November 9, I expected much more from this one.

Colleen Hoover has done it again! This book was so good I devoured it in less than a day.So much emotion. And I absolutely loved how she tied in the artwork with the confessions. That is such a cool idea. And the artist that she chose... bravo!

This book is just the last in a string of duds in my reading life lately, and I'm really bummed about it. This is the first Colleen Hoover book I've ever read, and all I have heard is how Hoover is the new adult goddess who is writing perfection and can do no wrong, and then I read this book and
Show More
was like - what? Because I seriously don't understand the hype. Maybe this is one of her "bad" books - any prolific author has at least one - but having nothing else of hers to compare it to, I just don't know.

I really intensely disliked the heroine in this book, because she was a perpetual victim. She's the type who just allows things to happen to her; she didn't do anything to change her fate or make her living situation better, really. And Owen gave me the skeeves from the beginning, when he starts internally railing about how stupid and shallow his ex-girlfriend is. Am I supposed to like this in a main character in a romance? Because I don't. I felt absolutely nothing for either of the two main characters, and when that happens in a book, it's game over for me. I stuck it out until about 60%, when I realized that there was no way in hell I would ever even care about this book, so I might as well give it up and get into something better.

I might give Hoover another read, because I have heard such great things about her books...but I'm not sure. There are so many romance books out there to read, and I'm not a huge fan of het romance to begin with if I'm honest, so this might be my first and last Hoover book.

When I finally picked up “Confess”, I tried to prepare myself for the emotional rollercoaster I was about to ride. I’ll tell you this, no matter how much you try; you’ll never be prepared. Hoover plans for you to embark on an unexpected journey and just when you think you’re ok, she’ll
Show More
slip the magic carpet right out from under you. She’ll leave you suspended in mid-air, wait for you to hit rock bottom and then she’ll come along and comfort you.

In Confess we follow Auburn Reed on a journey to live out the life she’s trying so hard to grasp. She has a plan and nothing can detour her. That is until she finds herself standing outside of an art studio that turns an everyday person’s confessions into a work of art. What she finds is so much more. Owen Gentry is a talented artist who shows Auburn that it’s ok to take risks, in love and in life. He leads an artist’s lifestyle and appears to be the guy for her, but what about his own confessions? Owen’s secrets could ruin everything that Auburn has been fighting so hard for. Will she give up her dream for a man she barley knows or will she allow herself to embrace love and give up the one thing she’s working so hard to obtain?

It’s rather difficult to give much detail of Confess without giving away any spoilers. There were a few things throughout the story that I was able to catch on to by Hoover’s excellent ability to foreshadow. That being said, she managed to keep ahold of a huge surprise for the very end. I encourage you to pick up Confess. There’s just enough romance, secrets, lies and comfort to keep you reading from the first page until the very end. It’ll leave you broken and mended and maybe broken again.

It is no secret that I love anything Colleen Hoover. I like to save her work for when I feel a reading slump coming on, as I always enjoy and fly through her books. I have seen where Confess was going to have a series on TV, so I knew I had to reach for this one so I could immediately start
Show More
watching it once it was released (I watched the first two episodes today and it did not disappoint).

I was almost in tears just from the prologue! CH just knows how to deliver and pull on your heart strings. I really like how information between both Auburn and Owen gradually gets revealed and things start coming together with the secrets and lies. I love Auburn and Owen, and my heart just hurt for them both throughout the whole book.

There were so many twists and turns and I did not really see them coming! I was so angry for them both at times. I felt so many different emotions!

I love Colleen Hoover. This book just wasn't my favorite by her. It was just okay by Hoover standards. The plot was lackluster and left me wanting more. The story itself was good, I just didn't connect to it. There were twists and turns but the ending was predictable. I guess I just wanted more.

Probably one of my favorite Hoover books, so far! I love the idea of taking anonymous secrets and creating art.

I love that all of Colleen Hoover's books are so different from each other and the stories just continue getting better with date! Confess was such an extraordinary book and i realized that the moment i passed chapter one. I love the fact that it covers different forms of love and that it has a
Show More
happy ending because id be devastated if Auburn didnt end up with the one who deserved her. Personally i believe the concept of art and confessions is what makes this book stand out the most and a pleasure to read. The plot line was one hell of a rollercoaster of feels but it was all worth it in the end :)

Great story!!! just might need a sequel. love the confessions even if some creeped me out.
LibraryThing member Okies
Mmm. Only persisted with it through 3 parts of 7. I've heard Sebastian York narrate plenty of times. But felt he didn't fit this role, so he was part of the reason why I gave it up. Neither lead characters were meaningful to me.
