Another Captain Underpants book, and this one lived up to the usual standard. Funny, lots of toilet humor (which tends to go over well in my house), and (of course!) Flip-O-Rama! In this installment, aliens come to Piqua bent on world domination, and take over the cafeteria, turning the

students into Zombie Nerds. Can George, Harold and (Tra-la-LAA) Captain Underpants save human civilization from almost certain destruction? 8/10 (for the right audience, that is).

George and Harold continue their 4th grade year after accidentally hypnotizing their principal to believe he is a superhero known as 'Captain Underpants' and in this time three aliens land on the school roof, fool their way into becoming lunch ladies, and turn students into zombie nerds. The many

misspellings and unbelievable plot progression have me cringing every other page, but the book is heavy with grade school bathroom humor and consists of many short chapters. It's also possible to read the book in sections or to read just the comic book parts--all important things to many grade school reluctant readers. Hopefully most kids will find the spelling errors humorous and be inspired to create comic books of their own. Good "bring 'em in" book for a library. I'd recommend to reluctant readers in grades 2-6 and to younger readers who may be reading comfortably, but who are not at a maturity level for full chapter books.

Like Time Warp Trio, this is a book that I’ve grown to love for its ability to reach the reluctant readers, including my own younger son. The humor verge into gross-ology, but it is actually written in a more sophisticated manner than one might originally think. Like many of the popular books of

this genre, it moves fast and keeps a reader engaged who normally would want to drop the book and go somewhere else. Again from personal experience, I was able to read this book with my son and have a great time laughing out loud at ridiculous events but pore over pages to laugh more at the drawings that permeate these books.

Space aliens don't make decent kitchen cooks and it distracts from the whole taking-over-the-world thing that generally preoccupies them. This I have learnt.

When George Beard and Harold Hutchins the merry pranksters of Jerome Horwitz Elementary School concoct a scheme to fool the school lunchroom cooks into whipping up a batch of exploding cupcakes as a birthday surprise for the principal, they have no idea of the catastrophic consequences that will

follow. At the time when the big “KA-BLOOOOSH!" comes, their school is invaded by extraterrestrial aliens bent on world domination who turn their classmates into obedient lunchroom zombie nerds! In a desperate move to save them, the entire planet, and Captain Underpants, George and Harold use alien EXTRA-STRENGTH SUPERPOWER JUICE to give their underwear wearing principal real superpowers (gasp) which leads to incredibly graphic violence in FLIP-O-RAMA™ in this delightfully silly third episode of the Captain Underpants series.
