I received a copy of this book from my parish for Lent. In fact, this book may have been given out diocese-wide. My Lent went pretty well without it, so I just picked it up a few days ago. I read a couple of chapters but something just felt off. I couldn't figure out what that was, so I checked the

Amazon reviews. The comments "Catholic self-help" and "superficial" jumped out at me. This book is basically yet another self-help book, but with Catholic overtones. Lent really isn't about self-help. There is a trade-marked phrase on the back of this book "Best Lent Ever", and Lent really isn't about that either. I am not feeling the love for this book, and will pass it on.

If you're willing to believe that "God is happiness" and "God wants us to be happy," this book might be for you. I wish the author had cited his sources for these claims, as they're sure not in the Bible. If anything, the books of Job and Ecclesiastes offer strong evidence to the contrary, as does

the existence of clinical depression (even among faithful Christians). Don't waste your time on this tripe.

Why are you not happy? Could it be that you are resisting all that God has for you in your life. Matthew Kelly looks at some of those reasons why we resist happiness.
