The Rainbow Fish is one of my favorite books. This is a great book for many reasons. I was volunteering in a Kindergarten classroom last year and we read this book. The teacher used it as a lesson for sharing. It is also is a great book to use while discussing marine life and the ocean.

This book would be good for ages k-3rd grade. It teaches students how to share. It would be fun to read while learning about fish. It would also be fun to make a rainbow fish with shiny silver scales.

This very popular children's series has made someone (hopefully Marcus Pfister) a whole lot of money. In rating this first book I'd say the beautiful illustrations are worth a 10, but the story is only worth a 4; so overall I give it a 7.

Rainbow Fish, the most beautiful fish in the ocean, responds harshly when another fish asks for one of his most prized possessions, a shimmery scale. When the ordinary fish hear of his choice to keep his extraordinary scales, they decided to punish him by withholding their praise. Rainbow Fish is

unhappy with their lack of admiration, and now considers himself the "loneliest fish in the ocean." Rainbow Fish makes friends with the plain fish by choosing to give away his shining scales, one by one, until he has only one left for himself. After giving away his scales, Rainbow Fish begans to feel "at home" with all the other fish.

Although Rainbow Fish feels transformed by sharing his scales, he lacks the insight that he had always been lonely and unhappy as he swam the ocean in solitary fashion craving adulation rather than companionship. Rainbow Fish still has a lot to learn.

Swimmy, by Leo Lionni, and Big Al by Andrew Clements are good choices for illustrating the elements of friendship, sharing, cooperation, and leadership.

this book. The book was done very well the picture were colorful. It could help children with learning colors. I would use this book in my classroom to deal with sharing and and teaching colors.

This is the book of a very pretty fish. Unfortunately, this fish makes looks to be everything about it. When asked to share, the little fish says no and is appaulded that someone would dare try to change the way it looked. As the book goes on, the Rainbow Fish learns that all the glitters is truly

not gold.

It is a good book with veru vivid pictures. It is a very visually stimulating book for anyone that looks at it. I am a very big fan of the theme of sharing within the book.

I would use this book to kick start a unit on sealife. It would also be a great book to tie into when discussing sharing and respecting one another within the classroom and throughout life.

This book is great. The illustrations beautifully express how a rainbow fish should be. The story feels like its telling the child it is okay to share. Sharing is one of the most beautiful gifts that a child can possess. The Blue Fish listened to his elder which was an octopus which was strange to

me. I would have thought the wise one would be a 500 year turtle. The book also has a lesson of obedience and God will bless you with not only material gifts but happiness and love as well.

This was a story about the Rainbow Fish. He had beautiful shimmering scales that he showed off but he did not have any friends. He did not have any friends because he did not want to share his scales. The Rainbow Fish was sad and alone. The wise octopus told him to share and it would make him

happy. He took the advice and shared a scale with all his friends until he only had one left. The Rainbow Fish was very happy and made lots of new friends.

I related to this book because it reminded me of times throughout junior high and high school. I personally was not the “Rainbow Fish” but I knew people like him. Friends are great people to have so I keep in mind daily the saying “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

I would do an underwater unit. We would learn about all animals that live in the ocean, what they eat and how the survive. After reading the Rainbow Fish, we would make our own Rainbow Fish. They would make it so that their fish was special in his/her own way. I would also have them write a short story about what their Rainbow Fish. Take a trip to an aquarium.

This book is about a fish in the ocean that has beautiful shiny scales that are all shades of blue, green, and purple. The pretty fish was very lonely and would ignore the other fish when they asked to play. He goes to visit the wise Octopus who gives him the advice to give every fish a single

glittering scale so that he will no longer be the most beautiful fish in the sea, but he will discover how to be happy. He began to share and gave one to everyone, the more he gave away, the more delighted he felt and began to feel more at home. He is left with one pretty shining scale, just like every other fish in the ocean.

other fish start to ignore Rainbow Fish. He realizes that he is all alone. He gets some great advise and learns that the most important thing is friendship.

I like this book. The pictures are great, they really capture your attention.

I would use this book when talking about sharing. You could also use this on a unit over sea animals.

A vain fish with beautiful colorful scales is told, essentially, to solve his unpopularity by giving away his beautiful scales. He does, and is very happy because he made so many other fishes happy.

Eh. I was underwhelmed. The book is illustrated beautifully, but the text was uninspiring. And what

are we saying, here? That if you're beautiful or special you have to make yourself ugly or the same as everyone else to have friends? Shades of "Harrison Bergeron".

The idea that the fish is happy because he saw how happy he made the other fishes is great, but it doesn't really resolve the fundamental problem that was set up: He was vain and thought himself better than everyone else, and so was rude to them. And we're supposed to understand, from the other fish, perhaps that it's okay to put up with people being rude to you so long as they give you shiny stuff?

Maybe it's better in the original German.

I'll look for other books that do a better job of focusing on "sharing", without sub-themes of conformity and how to buy friendship.

This is a terrific story on friendship. A beautiful fish learns that frienship and caring about others is much more important that how she looks. Not only does this lesson result in her becoming a better fish but the rest of the fish in the pack reap the benefits as well.

The rainbow fish is a great book for preschool and early education because of the story in the book. Yes it has beautiful pictures but it also tells a message. The message is that it doesn't matter what you look like on the inside but how you are on the inside is the most important thing. This book

I would recommend this to all elementary teachers. This is a great book because it shows kids how to share I feel like. The pretty rainbow fish is the most beautiful fish in the sea and would not give any of her pretty scales away. She had no friends and was sad. In the end she gives her scales to

many fish and now they all are pretty and all are friends. Kids will see that it is nice to share and it is fun to share. Also the pictures are shinny and fun to look at. You might read this before you go to the play ground or before you have a group activity at any time of the year.
