she likes playing in the mud and playing superhero. When Jackie wants to shop in the boys' section, Mama assures Susan "We wear what feels right." When Jackie asserts loudly that he's a boy named Jack, the family takes a pause and the siblings argue and become upset. Susan realizes that Jack still has the same big round eyes and the best giggle, and it's all OK. This is an empathetic treatment of gender identity and how a family can manage what can be complex feelings and dynamics.
