A young transgender boy confronts the idea of becoming an older brother in this sweet picture-book from author Kyle Lukoff and illustrator Kaylani Juanita. Born as a girl, Aidan never felt comfortable with that gender identification, eventually sharing his deep frustration with his supportive

parents. Now happily living as a boy, he isn't sure how to react when his mother announces she is expecting another child. He wants to be a loving sibling, and to ensure that the baby is happy. But what should he do to make that a reality...?

Lukoff captures what feels like an authentic perspective with Aidan's story - the brief note at the rear of the book indicates that he too was a trans boy - subtly highlighting through this story of a loving family that transgender children experience everything that other kids do, including the worries that sometimes come with the arrival of a new baby sibling. The artwork from Juanita is colorful and cute, depicting a close-knit family of color. I appreciated the nuance shown by the author in the scenes in which the narrator explains that there are all kinds of girls, who like all kinds of things, as this distinguishes children who simply don't conform to common gender stereotypes from transgender children. I'm not sure how I felt about the illustration in which "boy" and "girl" are crossed off the baby name book, as I don't believe there is anything wrong with raising children as boys and/or girls, but leaving that aside this is a sweet new book, one I would recommend to anyone looking for children's stories about transgender children.

Aiden is very excited to become a brother, and helps his parents paint the room, pick out names, and practice reading to the future newborn. In the beginning of the story, we learn Aiden was born a girl. Aiden is transgender, and growing was a little different for him. The first few stories explain

what being transgender is and how it affected Aiden. I think this book would be a great resource for both cisgender and transgender children (and adults!)

The book covered an amazing story of a transgender kid who was born a girl, but saw himself as a boy. Aidan was not content with his room, clothes, or name. Soon Aidan was going to become a big brother and did not want his sibling to go through the hardships he faced. As a result, Aidan helped his

parents pick a name, choose the room color, and clothes for the baby and made sure to pick everything neutral. After reading this book to students, they will learn the importance of accepting everyone for who they are and loving one another.

This book is an amazing resource in helping teachers educate their students about gender and gender identity. I love that it is a relatable book to many because it is also surrounding welcoming a new baby, so it has a dual purpose. It gives the reader a better understanding of what it is like to be

transgender and causes us to empathize with them and relate to them.
