Stunning, stunning still photography from the film; superficial, often annoying text about the characters in the film. Absolutely worth a look for the photography, and if you love the costumes, props, make-up work, and sets in Jackson's Middle-Earth, worth getting a copy for your own. The fold-out

map in the middle is quite nice as well. But if you're a Tolkien fan as well as a Jackson fan, I'd probably give the text a miss.

Ok, so maybe it's being in my doctoral program, or just my love of the JRR Tolkien books, but this was not a very satisfying read. The pictures were amazing but the information was all movie-canon and I feel they should cite which information came from the original books, the Christopher Tolkien

books, and just plain new to the movies. I realize I'm a giant curmudgeon though and if you just want to see pictures from the first Hobbit movie this is fine. I figure this is something some people who are not me would want.
(I received this for free after winning a movie promo giveaway so it's not something I would normally seek out...)
