Description

"The world's greatest thief is a costumed teen burglar by the nome d'arte of Bandette! Gleefully plying her skills on either side of the law alongside her network of street urchins, Bandette is a thorn in the side of both Police Inspector Belgique and the criminal underworld. But it's not all breaking hearts and purloining masterpieces when a rival thief makes a startling discovery. Can even Bandette laugh off a plot against her life?"--

Bandette is a stylish young thief (Nancy Drew as played by the gamine Audrey Hepburn) prowling the rooftops of Paris, whizzing around on a scooter, eating candy bars, and enlisting a whole slew of teens in her capers. I love the style and the retro feel and those practical ballet flats that give a
Show More
girl sure footing when she's high-kicking the bad guys. And since much of her amassed loot is first-edition books, I love her thieving ways, too.

The cover of this graphic novel inspired me to pick it up, it's truly eye catching! I was able to read it in it's entirety over my lunch hour. Bandette is the story of a masked thief (I'm assuming she's in her teens or early twenties, her age is never referenced) who enjoys stealing priceless
Show More
treasures, helping catch bad guys, and hanging with her buddies and dog. Her rivals and enemies are memorable and her banter with them is beyond witty. Whenever she is outnumbered or in a tight spot all Bandette has to do is press her "panic button" and her friends (ballerinas, baseball players, and her "boyfriend" the thai delivery man with the sweet vespa) come running. It's a cute, light hearted read that is geared for teens but younger kids may enjoy as well (light swearing is the only "bad thing"). I look forward to checking more of these humorous volumes as they're published. Truly refreshing.

Bandette is fabulous, funny, and French. She's a master thief who looks like Audrey Hepburn and behaves like a court jester. I don't think you can do any better.

I find Lieutenant Price and Monsieur's client - based on what we know about them so far - annoyingly cliche, especially in light of how
Show More
fascinating and unique Bandette and her urchins are. But I'm so looking forward to the next volume, and who knows, maybe those two women will end up surprising me, too.

I read this after seeing it was nominated for a continuing series Eisner this year. I am not the target demographic, but it was still an enjoyable read.

Bandette is a teen-aged cat burglar who is ultimately one of the "good guys" as she steals from the wicked to help out the course of justice.

This title is a fun graphic novel that reads quickly. Although it is the first in the Bandette series, it is not an origins story -- Bandette has already been
Show More
on the scene for some time, along with some of her fellow teen helpers and the police officer with whom she has a Jim Gordon-Batman relationship. The book also ends on a bit of a cliff-hanger, making the story as a whole feel less like a cohesive unit and more like the reader stepped into the middle of something and remained in the middle only. Still it was compelling enough to make me want to pursue the series further.

Large doses of humor in the text and bright, active illustrations are big selling points with this book. The book ends with a series of a shorts (sometimes only a page or two) in which minor characters have more of a story to tell, although these are rather tangential to the main story at hand. One longer and mostly prose story gives more insight into Bandette's nominal love interest, Daniel. The book ends with supplemental materials from the author and the illustrator, with each explaining their craft.

I picked this up utterly by chance, because it was on a display at the library and the bright red cover looked so stylishly appealing. I regret that because it was unplanned, I left it to the very last of the books I read from that visit.

Bandette in Presto! is a fun, light-hearted comic book, very
Show More
stylishly drawn. There isn't much depth to it, but there also isn't a lot of violence. The story is all about indulging in the pure fun of being naughty - the arguments and matched-wits with a rival, the cunning plans and successful heists, the thrilling risk of nearly being caught. I tried several Squirrel Girl books because I wanted a fun, somewhat goofy story and was disappointed - Bandette gives me exactly what I want! I suspect it's the influence of bandes-dessinées rather than American superheroes that makes all the difference for me.

I didn't care as much for the extra comics at the end, drawn by people who aren't Colleen Coover. Some of them were quite nice and fun stories, but for the most part they didn't appeal to me as much as the main story of Bandette, and definitely I prefer Colleen's art. The additional extras, about how Paul Tobin does the writing and how Colleen Coover creates the art, were very nice, though, and I enjoyed seeing a little of their processes.

How do you describe Bandette? She's stylish, friendly, and a thief who is more often than not on the side of the law. She and her friends--the ballerinas, the urchins, the delivery boy--come together to foil and commit crimes.

The art is adorable and so is Bandette. I think ladies of all ages will

enjoy this.

Likable characters and cute artwork.

superheroine graphic novel - fun, mostly teen-appropriate, or at least it would appeal most to teens/young adults and doesn't contain anything they'd bat an eye at--the worst swear is "ass"; some of the additional back stories at the end have a small amount of nudity.
