Book tastes

I like mostly fiction: mysteries, classics, thrillers, fairy tales, etc. I like old books, like Jane Austen, Bronte, Victorian era novels, but I also like modern books, too.

Don't get this!

Please no romance or horror books.

saroz: "The Way We Live Now" is a great idea.

Dawned on me that "The Little Stranger" is a rare Waters book that ISN'T Victorian. But it's set primarily in a Victorian house (in the 1950s) and very gothic and spooky. (Dec 3, 2023, 9:25pm)
Capybara_99: Sarah Waters is an interesting idea. Santee has a few books by Trollope but not "The Way We Live Now" which has a lot of resonances with current times. (Dec 3, 2023, 8:49pm)
MDGentleReader: Eight Cousins, An Old-Fashioned Girl, and Rose in Bloom by Louisa May Alcott all show up as books that indigosky should borrow from me. (Nov 30, 2023, 8:41pm)
thebookmagpie: Jane Harper's series that begins with The Dry might fit, Pachinko by Min Jin Lee, or Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. (Nov 30, 2023, 2:34pm)
saroz: Since you don't have it, I think you might go for Sarah Waters' "The Little Stranger." She is an excellent modern writer who captures the flavor of Victorian writing very well, and that's probably her book that most closely resembles an actual Victorian story. (Nov 28, 2023, 9:04am)
