Funny and interesting, good for ages 12-16. Not anything earth-shattering, but pretty good.

YA novel that I can see being made into a movie of sorts, though with adults not kids. Computer Geek, sleezy guy, wanna be singer whose mother is a fraud artist and a barfy dog travel west with a couple of thugs after them.

DNF- Hmmm, I'm only a couple pages into this and having trouble suspending my disbelief. The boy buys a car for ~$700. The only reason he does this is drive from the east coast to California for a job. I happen to know that he could easily buy a one way plane ticket for much, much, much less money.

And then if he really needs a car when he gets there, he'd still have plenty of money saved to buy another clunker car to get around with.
Oh, I read the next couple of pages and it explains his motivation for driving. Still not convinced though.
