Manifest

Made in northwest New York State, the images in Manifest, which recall daguerreotypes, one of photography's earliest forms, reflect the region's unique and overlapping histories of slavery, abolitionism, and spiritualism. These intimate yet monumental images spatially blur the objects, defying an easy read or interpretation, veiling and unveiling the residues of slavery and segregation.
