NOTE:
Stories of Color notes several reasons this book is found to be problematic to Indigenous communities. In lieu of reading it, consider Eileen Lettick's Sarah the Bold, a story about a modern Black girl who is transported back in time to the 18th century, where she must find a way to survive those who mistake her as a runaway slave.
