Description

The Kabbalah is an esoteric Jewish doctrine adapted by author S.L. MacGregor Mathers to form the Hermetic order of the Golden Dawn, an occult organisation. This volume includes three of the critical books from the Zohar, the fundamental work in Kabbalah, as well as Mathers' introduction explaining the key elements of Jewish mysticism. Mathers' translation from Hebrew originally appeared in 1926, and it continues to be a valuable resource for students interested in Religious Studies, particularly Mysticism and the Occult.

This book is a translation from the Latin of that portion of the Zohar that Christian Knorr von Rosenroth's completed before his untimely demise. To my knowledge this was the only extensive translation of any part of the Sefer ha-Zohar into English until the coming of the Soncino Press version.

This version is in fairly heavy Latinate English which will keep you reaching for your Latin Dictionary. Compared to more recent translations of the Zohar such as the incomplete Socino version and the translation in progress Pritzker Edition it is definitely a creature of it's time and place.
