Description

In 2006 Forbes magazine ranked Tom Cruise as the most powerful celebrity in the world. With three Golden Globe awards, three Academy Award nominations, and 27 films with an average box office gross of nearly $100 million, People Magazine's choice for the "Sexiest Man Alive" in 1990 is unquestionably one of the biggest movie stars of our time. He has also become one of the most controversial, for his outspoken championship of Scientology, for his criticism of Brooke Shields for turning to the "Nazi science" of psychiatry for help with postpartum depression, and for the time in 2005 when he jumped on Oprah Winfrey's couch proclaiming his love for Katie Holmes. But for all the headlines and the rumors swirling around him, the real Tom Cruise has remained surprisingly hidden-until now. For two years, acclaimed investigative journalist Andrew Morton has been uncovering the true story of Tom Cruise-from his days as bullied "little Tommy Mapother," to his early stardom, to his romances and his increasingly public involvement in the world of Scientology. With new sources and exclusive interviews, Morton brings us never-seen photos and never-heard revelations about the private, sometimes shocking world of Tom Cruise.… (more)

I believe every word. Any apprehension I've felt toward Cruise and Holmes since the couching jumping incident has been confirmed in this book.

From Cruise's famous living room romp in "Risky Business," to his infamous couch-jumping incident on Oprah, biographer Andrew Morton provides a lively chronicle of the life of a Hollywood icon. Any contemporary film buff will enjoy the value-added feature of going "behind the scenes" to discover

what was happening as films like "Born of the Fourth of a July," "Rain Man" and a dozen other flicks were being made.
The portrait that Morton paints in this well-crafted biography is not flattering. Cruise is depicted as a manipulative control freak who clearly has had problems fostering long-term relationships. The insights Morton provides into Cruise's upbringing and his involvement in Scientology are particularly interesting. There aren't too many "inside scoops" that haven't already been well-chronciled in the media. Still, Morton puts an interesting spin on Cruise's Hollywood conquests and his personal struggles. A good read.

Tom Cruise has a very carefully crafted image, and I don't want to get sued, so I'll just say... well, I won't say anything.

This book took a deep look at a very talented actor who may be a little crazy. Andrew Morton has once again dug into someones life and brought out the most interesting nuggets. I loved the closer look at the private and mysterious world of Scientology.

Just finished this book and immediately turned on my computer to do more research about the cult scientology. I found very interesting articles and I think this cult is very dangerous and people have to be educated.

Also watched the famous youtube videos of Tom Cruise. The Oprah tape and the one

where he talks like a lunatic on scientology and another one where he attacks Brooke Shields and the interviewer. I love the fact that Andrew Morton did not back down from publishing his book even though he was threatened. Threatening and suing is what the cult is very good at, not only the cult but also the second main man Tom Cruise.

This book was great and really opened my eyes.

Interesting background on Tom Cruise. I always knew a lot about him and this gave me even more insights into his personal life especially Scientology. I like him as an actor but he is a little wackadoodle.
