Description

African friends and Money Matters grew out of frustrations that Westerners experience when they travel and work in Africa. This book will be of interest to Westerners living, working, or travelilng in sub-Saharan Africa: business, government, diplomatic, and Non-governmental Organization personnel, religious workers, journalists, development sociologists and tourists.

I would consider this a must-read book for anyone serving in Africa, or Haiti.

It offers a lot of insight into the culture of Africans.

Almost all of the observations are followed with a personal example or an example from respected sources studying Africa.

to get to know the culture you will find yourself having some "Aha" moments. For example, negotiating in the marketplace is expected and can be insulting if you only accept the initial price offered. It's helpful to understand the Westerner's role in the culture and the expectations.

I'd also recommend a companion book, "The Poverty of Nations" by Barry Asmus and Wayne Grudem.
