A tornado has destroyed a small Minnesota community and among the missing are not only a group of students but PEAK Rescue team leader Chet King. Ty Remington will stop at nothing to rescue his mentor, not even when the girl he loved--and lost--walks back into his life. But Brette needs his help more than he knows, despite her stubborn determination to push him away. And when he gets a second chance, loving her just might cost him more than he can imagine. A blogger for Vortex Storm Chasers, Brette Arnold didn't expect her adventures to land her in the same place as Ty, the guy who she walked--no, ran--from over a year ago. She had her reasons--good ones. The kind that tell her that falling for him again would only lead to heartache. But Ty isn't the kind of man to give up--not on the missing students, or on her. My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.
The astounding thought about this series is that from book one through book five, I have never lost interest. The author writes exceptionally well as to keep readers like
If you haven’t been aware of the series, here is the order in which they need to be read as it is a continuing story line from book to book. The titles are Wild Montana Skies, Rescue Me, A Matter of Trust, Troubled Waters, Storm Front and in November 2018 the final installment titled, Wait for Me.
Each novel focuses on a couple of the characters and their unique situations that might conclude in the book or go on to the next one. In this novel, we see the beginning of the story between Ty and Brette, as well as the unique and climactic conclusion of Ben King and Kacey’s story. But that isn’t all, each novel has other rescues that are happening by the PEAK team and other people who have been part of the main story since book one. What really grabbed my attention in the books is how Susan has her various people in the plot that were in the background come to the forefront in a very exciting way!
Each player has unique strengths, weaknesses, struggles with their faith, working well together or leaving the PEAK team, etc. In one of the books mentioned above, there is still a murderer on the loose. Now, he has returned to finish what he left undone. When that moment comes in the story, it will really grab your heart and leave you white-knuckling the book to see how it concludes!
So, if you haven’t read the novels, please start now so you are ready with me for the exciting conclusion to a very enjoyable and hope filled series!
I enjoyed the metaphor of storms in the characters personal lives as they fought the physical real storm.
The author addressed deeper issues of the heart, and not with a surface, pat answer. The struggles were real, the frustrations were felt.
SPOILER: I don't enjoy books that don't "Complete" what was started, but require reading getting another book. Although there was some closure, the epilogue didn't provide that only led you into the next book??
This is the fifth in a series of six books. It was difficult to keep all of the characters and their relationships and backstories straight without having read the earlier books. There were also a few rather unbelievable parts of the plot--Why does a search and rescue team arrive in Minnesota from Montana before the Red Cross (or anyone else)? And while searching for the missing cross-country tearm in the wreckage of a school, why is a barking dog ignored? Overall this was a nice romance with Christian values, but read the series in order.
I am looking forward to the next book in the series. You get a hint of what will be happening in the epilogue of Storm Front.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revel Publishing through LibraryThing. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Storm Front is due to be released in May 2018.
The
The plot takes many twists and turns where a certain person or group of people is found with the hope that all the others missing will be with that adult, only to find that it is not so. But the team does not give up until all the missing are accounted for.
At the same time, many of the characters are dealing with inner (figurative) storms. Ben is trying to balance his touring as a country star, which he feels he has to do to support his fledgling business, with being a father and wooing his soon-to-be wife. Ty is struggling with guilt over an accident that occurred while he was the helicopter pilot and hasn't been able to bring himself to pilot since. He's also struggling with his feelings for Brette (even before life throws them together again.) Brette struggles with being dependent on others (she doesn't like to) and also with concerns about her health and worries about recurrence--she can't quite bring herself to believe that she's beaten it. Kacey, Ben's fiancee, is struggling with her feelings for him and with his frequent absences and what that means for their life together. The postponements of their wedding leave her wondering if he's second-guessing their life together.
The author does a good job of balancing all these plot lines, creating and maintaining suspense, having some romance creep in, and having a storyline that doesn't get fully resolved so that there is a set up to the next book in the series, without having the reader feel cheated that there isn't an ending to that particular storyline. All-in-all, I found it a very satisfying read and hard to put down.
I received a copy of this book from LibraryThing Early Reviewers Program in exchange for an honest review.
Storm Front is all this and more. Tornados, kids in danger, parents in distress and, at the front of it all, Ty Remington. He doesn’t fit in, too impulsive; which gets him
A concert interrupted by the forces of Mother Nature. A missing cross-country team and a very bad dude looking for an innocent women. What pulls all these crisis into prospective? God. ‘Nuf said.
Brette and Ty have a history that is not very well explained in this book. I guess you must have to read the previous stories to get the full picture. Brette is mad at Ty for him paying her medical bills. Hmm. In most situations, that is considered very generous and gentlemanly. Eventually, we come to understand that she hates hand-outs because in her experience, people don't help others without wanting something in return.
In the present, Brette is working as a photographer with a group of storm chasers. When her path crosses with Ty's, things kinda go south. They like each other very much, but each has built a wall for self preservation. When disaster strikes, they must work together to rescue victims of a tornado.
I have read other Susan May Warren books that were much better than this. I wouldn't really recommend it.
Susan May Warren has again instilled her
This is a Christian book, but it is not preachy. It shows the faith and growth of faith in the characters. It also shows how you can wander and come back to God. It shows God does not leave you.
I recommend this book to anyone looking for a good, clean, Christian book full of action and adventure.
This book was given to me but the review is totally my own opinion and choice.
Ty's determination to find Chet King, Ty's mentor and
Storm Front, the fifth novel in Susan May Warren's Montana Rescue series, delves deep into Ty and Brette's relationship which began back in A Matter of Trust (Montana Rescue #3). I do recommend reading the entire series because each book is so good and Kacey and Ben from Wild Montana Skies (Montana Rescue #1) feature prominently with their own relationship issues.
Like the other novels in this series, the plot is filled with action, suspense, and romance. The storyline easily held my attention through the duration of the novel. Ty was the shining character in this novel for several reasons – his character development as he learns to trust himself and his Creator, his selfless treatment of Brette inspite of her health issues, and his stubborn determination to complete all that he has set his heart to accomplish. Without spoiling anything, I will mention I loved Ty and Chet's conversation about “rescuing” near the end, possibly one of my favorite scenes in the novel.
I recommend Storm Front and all the other novels in this series by Susan May Warren to fans of Christian fiction who are looking for a gripping story filled with action, suspense, romance, and faith.

Will they find them. We meet Ty and the crew. It not
Brette thinks she can do everything herself. She get angry the one and feels like she can not depend on the one person she truly. That one person is god and having faith. She is scared but are we not all scared. We can not have it all without faith or him.
Ty also learns as well. He can not fix everything. He can be there but he need to let Brette come to him. Ty also learns lesson as well
Susan does a wonderful job of showing grace though the book and telling of this story. She had me in tears and hoping for Brette and Ty. Will they make it? Will they survive? Will the students be found?
We see what twisters can do? We also learn about twisters a bit in the story. Will they survive or will they not?
I found the multiple POVs very confusing,
The plot felt very disjointed and all over the place, and the characters didn't seem very smart or realistic. (Gotta hurry up and save some people because time's running out, but let's take 5 and make out in the parking lot? Hello?)
And on that note, the another main reason this was a one star for me was the romance. It was nearly entirely based on physical attraction, which is so not what I want to read about. There was a distinct lack of depth and realisticity in Ty and Brette's relationship. Also, far too many overly described kisses for my taste. Um, no thanks. This quote particularly really rubbed me the wrong way:
"You have no idea how you look when you talk about God. He's in you or something because when you say it, I believe it."
"Really?"
"Mmmhmm. And it's completely . . . I don't know. Sexy. Or charming, or maybe just breathtaking."
Really? The definition of sexy is "having sexual appeal". How can someone's love for God have sexual appeal? And if you think it does, then . . . something is not right. It's turning something spiritual into something physical, which just seems weird.
Also, the inaccuracies bothered me and drew me out of the story. There were multiple medical and weatherscientific inaccuracies that had me pausing. For example, Ty twists his previously broken knee severely and thinks he probably won't be able to walk for the next several days. But, he doesn't even get it checked out by a doctor and is completely fine walking, and it's not mentioned again until a few chapters later when he now has a limp.
Overall, this isn't a book I enjoyed, nor would I recommend it.
So this is book 5 in the series. It can be read as a stand-alone because there are good snippets of major events from previous books integrated into the story, but reading the previous books will help to fully understand the secondary characters in this book.
The story of Ty and Brette is one of misunderstanding, past hurts, self-condemnation, and insecurity. And yet, in the midst of his insecurity, Ty pursues Brette relentlessly and turns her eyes to God. Ty is probably the most emotional and spiritual out of all the heroes in this series. He feels with his entire heart and soul and spirit. Man, I actually cried with Ty through some of his memories and his heartbreaks! And Brette is probably the most independent yet the most needy heroine in the series. She tries so hard to do life by herself but realizes that she can’t.
And now I’m itching for the last book in the series which will feature Pete and Jess. Can’t wait!
I was given a complimentary copy of the book by the author and Baker Publishing. I was not required to write a favorable review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and subjective.
