Spenser goes back to school--to investigate corruption in college town. Taft University's hottest basketball star is shaving points for quick cash. And if Spenser doesn't watch his own footwork, the guilty parties will shave a few years off his life...

A basketball player at Taft University, near Boston, is shaving points. Parker usually throws in something worth thinking about into what feels like a fun read; this time, it's our education system with social promotions and resulting illiteracy. Hawk and Susan are, of course, in the book.

First line:
Vince Haller invited me to lunch at the Clarendon Club on Commonwealth Avenue with the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Taft University, Haller's alma mater ~

I am working my way through all of the books that Robert B. Parker wrote, enjoying them all for the second time.

tough as nails, soft as a marshmallow, smart, wisecracking private eye, with a strong code of honour, continues his adventures in Boston, Mass.

This book had all the familiar characters from Susan to Hawk to Gerry Broz, and Belson and Quirk. There was some further character development, however I did not find the story to be terribly interesting. So, although the book WAS fun it certainly was not my favourite in the Spenser series.

I would recommend you start with Looking for Rachel Wallace even though it is not the first in the series; it is still my favourite.
