Description

Having found a measure of peace among the dwarves in the reclaimed Mithral Hall, Drizzt begins to know contentment for perhaps the first time in his tumultuous life. But for the dark elf renegade from a city ruled by priestesses of a demon goddess, no peace can long last. It is Lolth herself, the dreaded Queen of the Demonweb Pits, who musters her followers to pour up from the black depths of the Underdark to reclaim for their goddess the one soul that had managed to elude her: the soul of Drizzt DoUrden. -- Jacket cover.

Being my second time reading this book, it didn’t have the greatest impact on me. The whole way through the book I was reading it with the knowledge of the ending. This book wasn’t as much fun to read trough the second time as many of the others. I think the reason behind that is that this book

was mainly an adventure. There wasn’t a lot of character development or struggles in this book, which is what I think gives books re-read qualities. It was more like a fun romp with old friends.

There's action here, and lots of it. This book moves at a breakneck pace; I found it wickedly addictive. I'd set out to read just one chapter more, then discover I'd greedily devoured another fifty or sixty pages.

Drizzt's crazy drow family comes after him and the Dwarves of Mithril Hall to get revenge, mostly on Drizzt. Drizzt struggles with bringing such danger on his friends, and how to end the struggle without killing every drow he ever knew. Lots of action and interesting descriptions of the Underdark

of the Forgotten Realms.

For anyone that has ever played Dungeons & Dragons or that sort of RPGs this books reads as the chronicle of an epic dungeon crawl adventure. Full of evil enemies to fight and old comrade-in-arms. There is no much to the story and not many character development either and I guess, as others have

pointed out, that it might not make a good second read, but it has met all my expectations of an action packed tale featuring Drizzt Do'Urden.

This is no great literature but it is such a fun read that I reward it with four stars just for giving me a few thrilling hours.

Good story - good start.

Wow, so I remember these books being pretty basic but this is just bad. The characters are beyond shallow and the writing is poor. I guess there's some things you just can't go back to.

Better than Books 2-6, but still not that great. I am glad Salvatore is bringing in more of the drow society as that is much more interesting than goody-two-shoes Drizzt and his companions, or even his weirdly honorific nemesis Entreri, which take up too much of the novel.
