I probably should have given this one better than 3 stars, but it wasn't quite good enough for 4, and I still refuse to make things more complicated for myself by giving half stars of any sort to any book.

There are better spy novels, and better action novels, and better political novels. But this
Show More
one is just fun. There's just enough detail to convince you that Flynn really knows what he's talking about without being so much that it slows things down. He's not trying to go down the dark path that le Carre did before him, but is trying to write a good action story with clear good guys and clear bad guys. In doing so, he probably exaggerates a bit, and his characters are sometimes weak, but they do have real motives and real emotions.

This is one I wouldn't recommend to everyone, but if you like political thrillers, check it out.

I love spy books. This was a very good spy novel set right before 9/11. This was my first Vince Flynn read and I am going to need to get more. The main caracter Mitch Rapp is 95% bad ass, and 5% compassionate human. The chapters that do not have him involed were not as interesting and I couldn't
Show More
wait to get to the next chapter and hopefully more of Mitch.

CIA director Thomas Stansfield is dead -- a fact many individuals in and around the nation's capital are pleased to hear. But their happiness proves to be short-lived once they learn that Stansfield's successor is the late director's close friend and protégé, Dr. Irene Kennedy. Her plan of action
Show More
is to pursue the very goals Stansfield established -- something Stansfield's fiercest enemies don't want to hear. And something they refuse to accept.

Meanwhile, Israel has discovered that Saddam Hussein is close to entering the nuclear arms race -- and they've vowed to stop the Iraqi madman before he can get his hands on the ultimate weapon. With the Middle East teetering on the precipice of chaos and devastation, the president of the United States is forced to act. The commander in chief's secret weapon? None other than the CIA's top counterterrorism operative, Mitch Rapp. But the window for action on this crucial mission is incredibly tight. Israel has given the United States only two weeks to take the nukes out. After that, they'll do whatever it takes to destroy the weapons themselves. With the haunting specter of World War III looming, Rapp races against time and impossible odds -- navigating the deadly alleys of Baghdad, tearing through the corruption-riddled streets of Washington, D.C., and taking drastic measures against anyone who gets in his way.

Excellent. The best read yet of all the Mitch Rapp series.

Separation of Power is a book full of mystery and intrigue. I like this book because it has different information added to your knowledge every page.

Political thriller that doesn't age well. The cartoon characterizations of the central figures reflect the prevailing right wing paranoia prevalent prior to the actual invasion of Iraq. The book reads like an inside the security apparatus rationale for the actions that resulted in the disaster that
Show More
became the Iraq occupation. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the action and the spy vs spy interplay.

This is another solid book about CIA operator Mitch Rapp. Rapp along with his team of operators have to stop Hussein from building a nuke, and by the way he stills has to help fix things at home because a corrupt Senator is trying to his his boss (Kennedy) fired. I have enjoyed this series of books
Show More
and am looking forward to one day Michael Bay or JJ Abrams creating the Rapp universe.

The one common thing I find in Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp series is they're to long bu about a 100 pages, such was the case with 'Separation of Power'. Despite its length 'Separation' was a good read in keeping me interested until the end, though the love thing with him and Anna gets a bit yawning
Show More
after awhile.

There are a few plots that Flynn intertwined quite well, the epilogue was not the epilogue I would have gone with, too short for a role that was much larger in the overall of a plot that expands two books but some will find it fitting for the political thriller genre.

Closing the book on 'Separation of Power' it was a average political thriller and kept me interested but bottom line was I knew the end before it happened it was just matter of getting there

Another well plotted Mitch Rapp novel, complete with well described action and political intrigue. Highly enjoyable.

Edge of your seat ending! Vince Flynn weaves political intrigue with action in this easy to read thriller. That the POTUS has his own personal assassin is preposterous...maybe! The characters, from the fat cat Senator to the barking dog Congressman to the DIRCIA are all believable. Only thing that
Show More
detracted was that POTUS got more detail than either LBJ or Obama, both renowned micromanagers. The ending brought political drama together with Mitch Rapp's last jobs. I couldn't put it down, then whew! It's over.

Quickly picking up where Book #4 in the series, "The Third Option" left off, "Separation of Power" is another solid addition to the Mitch Rapp chain of books. With many book series, it's not always necessary to read the books in order. However, in the case, I strongly suggest that "The Third
Show More
Option" be read in advance of this book.
In this novel, Rapp picks up his life after the assassination attempt on him in Germany. He realizes that he values his relationship with Anna Reilly much more than his desire to continue to serve America as one of its most effective terrorist hunters. Before he can walk away from his job with the Orion Team and begin his new life with Anna, he must take care of a few loose ends that remain after the attempt on his life. One of those is to find out who set him up and why.
This effort takes Mitch and Anna to Italy so that he can gather information from one of his old (and very deadly) associates, Donatella Rahm. If anyone knows the details behind the plot, she would. What Mitch stumbles on to when he connects with Donatella drives the plot on from that point. Was Donatella a pawn in this game and why is she suddenly being stalked by her handler? Why does the threat involve one of America's greatest allies?
Author Vince Flynn does his usual great job keeping the reader glued to the book. A more than satisfactory ending to this novel neatly ties up the plots from both this book and Book #3.
Highly recommended!

With a new CIA director and chaos and devastation looming in the Middle East, counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp is called into action. SOFT

Reading my way through the Mitch Rapp series. I also watched the movie, American Assassin. I think I like it due to the thriller/action/spy material, more than the writing and skill of Vince Flynn. I will give it a four as I like the feeling of being at the beginning of a series, and hopeful all
Show More
the books in the series will entertain me. I entered this book into LibraryThing after I finished it. I will add the next book in the series next, as I am currently reading it. This concerns me a bit, as I like to enter books into LibraryThing to look at who else read the book and also statistics. Maybe that is a good thing as I still enjoy it, but I wasn't interested in the book enough to look at the book zeitgeist information. I'd never use the word zeitgeist it wasn't for LibraryThing.

Vince Flynn does it again. His fabulous characters, CIA assassin Mitch Rapp and politico, Irene Kennedy are back again. This time Irene is in the throws of confirmation as the first woman to head the CIA and Mitch is struggling with his own life. This a great read, particularly now when Flynn's

story lines smell more like fact than fiction.

This was MUCH better than the previous book. The story here starts almost immediately after the end of The Third Option, and really could be considered Part 2 of that book. This one is more action-packed and has much more Mitch in it.

And I really, really dislike Anna.
