This was a counting book. A little boy counted farm animals up to six. They were foul, calves, piglets, ducklings, kittens, and puppies. I also noticed the animals were described by different colors. All the animals played together, and then they took a nap in the hay. The pictures were very

colorful and busy.

I love animals. I had three of the six animals in this book. We had a kitten, puppies, and two ducks. At the end of the book, they cuddled and fell asleep in the hay and I love sleeping. The last picture reminded me of my puppy Millie and me on a lazy day.

This would be a good unit to get to know the different animals and sounds they make. The students can draw a picture of their favorite memory with their pet. Then they can write about it. I think it would be neat to have a show and tell and let them bring their pets.

Contemporary realistic fiction: This book is about a child who has a dog and decides to go visiting other animals. The child and dog end up visiting a brown foul, 2 red calves, 3 black kittens, 4 piglets, 5 ducklings, six yellow puppies. Eventually the child and dog get tired from visiting new
Show More
animals so all the child and the animals fall asleep in the hay.

I thought this story reminded me of a song because it was repetitive. Every time the child and dog visited a new animal the song had to start over and say in order who they visited and then the story would tell you who they were going to visit next. I thought the story was cute because this is a situation that could possible happen.

I think this book can teach a child to count and learn colors because the book repeats itself over and over so the child will learn different colors and how many of each animal. This book does help chldren learn new words as well as helping children improve their memory.

This book is about a little boy that wants to go visit all the baby animals on the farm. It is also a counting book.

I like this book because it is very well illustrated. It has a rhythm to it and I think Pre K and Kindergarten students would enjoy it as well.

I would use this book for a Math and/or
Show More
Science lesson. It would also be great to use to talk about what the baby animals are called such as calf, kitten, puppy, etc.

A great book for students that just started reading. The book is a well illustrated picture book. It has a few words on each page. I may decide to read this book out loud. It is a simple tale of (a girl or boy I can not identify)going to visit different farm animals. The book has a steady pace of
Show More
counting and rhyming, a gradual increase in farm animals on each page. My warning: The book ends before the the number ten is reached!

This book can be a good learning tools

Classroom extention
1. Book can be an lesson plan introduction to farm animals
The teacher can pass out the students a toy farm animals and explain
what they are. The students can make flash cards of farm animals
to study.

2. The Teacher can read the book and ask the students what where the
different types of farm animals. The student with the most right will
get to keep a farm animal toy.

Summary:
A child goes to visit all different kinds of animals. All of the animals are younger, so children can relate. This story teaches different colors and also goes through the numbers 1-6, which is great for younger kids.

Personal Reaction:
The pictures in this book are colorful and well done,
Show More
but I think they are also kind of strange. The story involves animals so children will most likely enjoy it based on that. I like that it teaches children at the same time, so they don't necessarily know they are learning while just enjoying a book.

Classroom Extensions:
A teacher can write on the board what the students favorite animals are to compare to each other. Another idea is that the students can go around the classroom and point out things that represent the numbers discussed.

Really simple reading, perhaps for kindergarten students or even good for a read aloud to children who are not able to read yet. The pictures correlate great with the text "next came 5 pinks pigs.."
A great idea to break from the reading and ask the child "can you find the 5 pink pigs? Let's find
Show More
them and count out loud!"
