This of course is one in a series of "If you give a ...." The story begins with giving a pig a balloon then it wanting a party and how having a party means the pig wants something else, etc. The story is circular in motion as it all comes together at the end. It is a great book for young children
Show More
because of the repetitive sentence structure and cute illustrations. It could also be used with older children working on cause and effect. It has entertaining and engaging text and pictures.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book as a child. Basically, pig wants a party and then realizes she needs balloons, has to decorate, wants to wear her faorite dress, has to call her friends and invite them to her party, but her friends were not at home so she went to find them. She ends up going to the
Show More
fair and all of her friends are there. Pig invites them to go home with her and spend the night which leads into a pillow fight and then the end of the book is the same as the beginning. I would probably use this book in Kindergarten. Loved this book!

This silly story follows the possibilities of what might happen if you gave a pig a party. It seems that the pig would never be satisfied. She would want balloons, to go to a fair, to eat ice cream, and to play hide and seek. After spending all this time with the pig, then she would finally come
Show More
back to the beginning and want a party again. This story would be fantastic for young children from preschool to first grade. It could be used as a tool to discuss birthdays, friends, and fun.

If you Give A Pig A Party by Laura Numeroff is one of my favorite books in her “If you give …” series. I love this book because there is this adorable pig who gets ready for her party and wears a cute dress and invites all her friends who happen to be characters from the other “If you give
Show More
…” books. The pig wants balloons, decorations, and a party dress. Then she invites her friends but she can’t get in touch with them. So the pig and the little girl go roaming around town to find them! The friends are all at different place in town, but eventually they round them all up and at the end it says, “If you give a pig a balloon, she is going to ask for a party!”

This is a book about giving a pig one thing like balloons, it leads to the pig wanting another thing such as decorating the house, and then another, and then another, and so on. It is a cute and silly easy read book that young children would enjoy.

This is a story about a pig who is given a party and then asks for a number of other things. She asks for balloons, to play in a street fair, for ice cream, and many other things. On this search to find her friends for her party, the pig goes on a great adventure that leads to much fun along he way

This is a typical "If you give a...." book by Laura Numeroff. This story is about a cute pig who wants to throw a party. She starts off by getting dressed and asking for a balloon. She precedes to asking for decorations, a party and inviting her friends. Eventually, the story leads to her asking
Show More
for so much that it finally comes back to asking for a balloon again. The children will love trying to guess what will happen to the pig next! Students will be kept very entertained!

This book is basically like one of those episodes that come after a TV series is over -- "The Brady Bunch Reunion in Hawaii" or whatever, where all kinds of characters from previous episodes and story arcs show up. It's not one of my favorites, although it was interesting to see characters I hadn't
Show More
yet seen in the "If you give a ..." series.

The adorable little adventurous pig is back! This time, we see all the adventures that result from giving the pig a party, starting with giving her some balloons to decorate with. The whimsical illustrations accompany the story perfectly. When the pig's friends join in, we some familiar faces -
Show More
like the cat, mouse, and moose from the other stories in this series. A particularly fun spread is the one where the pig and her friends are playing hide-and-seek. It's a great page to linger on with young readers while searching for all the animals. This is the kind of book to easily delight young children, girls or boys, and was such a hit the last time I was babysitting that I had to read it aloud at least half a dozen times!

Genre: This book is a good example of fantasy. The pig was given human characteristics in wanting many balloons and all of her friends there at the party.

Style: 5 stars

- This is a modern fantasy book because pigs do not actually wear clothes and want parties. This is impossible, but the author makes it feel as if it real. The theme of this book is that for every cause there is an effect.

A fun and funny book to read aloud with your kids about an energetic little pig that keeps asking a kind girl for countless favors from taking her to a street fair to having all her animal friends over for a slumber party. A great story illustrating cause and effect. Adults and kids alike will love
Show More
the girl, the pig, the story and the book. In addition, the cause and effect sequence helps kids develop narrative or storytelling skills. If you love this book, you'll also love Numeroff's "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie."

This creative story is about a pig who derires many different things for herself. For every event there is something else that she desires to add to the party excitement. Readers are kept guessing of what the pig will want next.

This is such a funny, cute book. Great book to read when trying to get children engaged in writing. Great activity: Have students write their own page in the book. Suggested ages: 4-10 years.

Another fun book! These books may seem just for fun for children but they really teach them that once one thing is started there usually are steps to follow!

This picture book is a humor that is a part of the series "if you give...". It is a funny series and one of my most favorite children series. This book is about a pig who has a party and wants to decorate the house. But with each demand she has, something else comes along that is more appealing to
Show More
her. She wants to contact her friends to come over but quickly leaves the house and party to go find them. When they find the friends at a street fair, she wants to play all the games, ride all of the rides, eat ice cream, etc. while forgetting about the party completely. This book is good for 2nd and 3rd graders to enjoy and read independently. This book was enjoyable for me to read because it is funny how quickly the pig forgets what she just asked for and go onto a new subject. The big idea was how one little thing can lead into a series of random events and how a minuscule idea can turn to an adventure. She forgets about the arty and "start[s] a game of hide-and-seek" with friends. The next page has all of the characters hiding and it was fun to try to find all of them in the trees, wheelbarrows, plants, logs, rocks, etc.

If You Give a Pig a Party
“If You Give a Pig a Party” by Laura Numeroff is part of the “If You Give” series. This book has a fun sequence of leading from one even to another until at the end of the book you are right back where you started. Each distraction makes sense and is not random, but
Show More
young readers will find humor and possibly be able to relate how easily they can get off task. For example, “Her friends won’t be home, so you’ll go with her to look for them. On the way, she’ll see a street fair. She’ll want you to take her on the bumper cars”. The plot is engaging and keeps suspense as Pig keeps wandering through her adventure to decorate for the party. Along Pig’s adventure she goes to the fair, plays hide-and-seek, and even has a pillow fight. The illustrations are bright and fill the white pages allowing them to stand out. The text is only one or two sentences per page and the picture helps add detail. The big idea of this story is to entertain while Pig gets ready to give a party.
