a fortune upon her marriage. Unfortunately, the man she has picked out is reluctant to propose, so Alec suggests making him jealous with a pretend courtship. Only Alec and Kit soon realize there is nothing pretend about their attraction.

Will written with engaging characters, but the keeping secrets trope is exceedingly annoying.

Alec is a charming rogue and it is impossible not to admire his determination to save his estate and provide for his servants and tenants even though his "father" treated him so badly. That said, his constant lies regarding his true reasons for pursuing Kit (even though he ultimately falls in love with her) undermine his hero status.

Kit is also quite likable although her distrust of men resulting from her father's infidelities gets old, especially considering her obtuseness when it comes to the reasons for her childhood betrothed's reluctance to marry. How can such an intelligent woman be so blind when it comes to a man's obvious sexual orientation?

Alec and Kit have strong chemistry and their dialogue is witty, so overall, an entertaining read and I look forward to continuing the series focusing on the less than socially acceptable half-brothers.
