Description

With his rugged good looks, vast wealth, and family name, hell-raiser Hutch Carmody is still the golden boy of Parable, Montana. But he's done some growing up--making peace with his illegitimate half-brother and inheriting half of Whisper Creek Ranch, which should have been all his. These days, Hutch knows there are some things money can't buy: like the heart of loving, ladylike divorcee Kendra Shepherd.

Calling off a wedding is one thing, calling off a wedding during the actual wedding is another thing entirely. And the town sure does keep talking when Hutch Carmody, a rich rancher with a way for leaving broken hearts behind him, calls off his wedding while his would-have-been bride Brylee Parish
Show More
is walking down the isle. Kendra Shepherd is no new witness to the ways of Hutch Carmody, having been through the romp with Hutch, Kendra can't afford to let her heart have it's way when it comes to him. Especially since she now has a daughter.

Let me just say that this book is better than the first. Right from the first page I was captured by what was going on & how in the hell could someone get married and have kids during the interim of the two books! And then I was brought back to serenity when I kept reading. Hutch is definitely a swoon worthy cowboy, Aside from his good hunky dory looks, I think men who respond to children & show a loving heart to them are definitely swoon worthy. We are introduced to Madison, Kendra's adopted daughter, in the beginning of the book & the conversations this little girl has brought a different element to the book entirely. Picking up a romance, you're more entitled to be enthralled by the couple the book surrounds but, as the book progresses, you can't help but love this little girl. Kendra Sheperd is caring around a lot of issues, all from her past. Having love and lost with Hutch Carmody and having been married and divorced to Madison's father, Kendra is trying to change around her life entirely to give her daughter what she never had. Love.

There is a lot I liked about this book. First, Hutch. Laaaawd, let me have a man like that & I'm good to go! Hutch is different from his brother Slade Barlow. Where Slade is more quiet & thought provoking, Hutch will speak his mind & speak it right there on the spot. And he's great with children... I mean, come on.. totally won me there! What I didn't like... well, I can't say I didn't like anything.. unless I can say I wish there was more smutty scenes? But then again, that wouldn't have boded well for the book. But, let me just say that Hutch Carmody sounds like a great lover. He loves him some foreplay & won't have it any other way. Kendra is one lucky woman to have a man devour her like he does ;)

I would definitely recommend this book. If you're looking for something light and fun, then Hutch Carmody is just what you need :) I am definitely looking forward to the next book in this series. Big Sky River is said to be released by December 18, 2012. There is no blurb, but I'm sure I know just who's story it's going to be & I am super excited for it!

2.5 Stars Big Sky Mountain – Linda Lael Miller

*ARC SUPPLIED BY PUBLISHER*

This was an extremely slow moving book, one with many questions left unanswered and situations left unfinished. This wasn’t even a very romantic book. It seems that the romance (what there was of it) was solely in the
Show More
minds of Kendra and Hutch the main characters.

As the book opens, we find Hutch leaving his fiancé at the altar as she is walking down the aisle. We find Kendra coming home with her new daughter who is actually the daughter of her late husband and another woman. Kendra and Hutch had been an item long ago and Kendra had left Hutch for Jeffrey, a rich, titled Englishman.

This book centers on the day-to-day lives of Hutch and Kendra and never really gets more exciting than that. We sometimes become quite caught up in some side stories, which at times seem more interesting than what is happening with the protagonists.

The characters are well written and the dialogue (what little there really is) is interesting. All in this entire book lacks something. There is nothing there to drive the story, and at times the inner-dialoguing, especially Kendra’s, can get to be too much.
So many questions had been raised that were never answered. Then the novel concludes hastily, almost as if it was an after-thought.

While this was not a horrible novel, I just don’t feel that this was the best book by Ms Mille

Madison stills the book. You just want to hug her and spoil her.
In the last book that I read of Linda Lael Miller I did not care for Hutch
much. First chapter still not much of a fan. After that I got to see more
sides of him and I would be on his side
Show More
now.
Hutch calls off his wedding as the bride is coming down the isle. Though it is
embrassing to call of the wedding its better before than divorce and even
more hard feelings.
Kendra is back in town with a four year old Madison who she adopted. Madison has been in foster care most of her life. Her father was Kendra's exhusband and he is dying and asked her to find his daughter and raise her.
Kendra used to date Hutch back before she was married. When they broke up she married Jeffery and was hoping that Hutch would come after her.
Madison falls for Hutch right away calling him cowboy man even asks in her prayer for him for a father.
Hutch falls for Madison too. He wants Kendra still and he thinks she broke up with him. Kendra thinks it was Hutch who broke up their relationship.
Thier are a few sex scenes in the book. Like the characters and can't wait to see whos story is next.
I was given this ebook to read in exchange of honest review from Netgalley.

I was halfway through reading Big Sky Mountain when I found out that this is a second in a series. Somehow I missed that but it made no difference, Big Sky Mountain is a wonderful story and I enjoyed every bit of it!

Big Sky Mountain opens with a wedding. Hutch is standing at the altar when he
Show More
shocks everyone by calling off the wedding. The would-be-bride and her friends are understandable upset and start a website bashing Hutch. That night he goes to his half brother Slades’s house for dinner and runs into his lost love Kendra and her adopted daughter Madison.

Kendra’s story along with her adoption of Madison is such an interesting one. Madison just touches your heart and totally steals the book. Kendra has some issues but it is see how she and Hutch finally come back together for good

Now I need to go back and read Big Sky Country the first in the Swoon-Worthy Cowboys series. I can’t wait to see what I missed!

Review:

When I received Big Sky Mountain I could not wait to trot back into the lives of Parable's cowboys -particularly Hutch, Slade, and Boone. After finishing Big Sky Country, I was left pondering the fates of some of my favorite characters, so I was ecstatic to hear that I would definitely be
Show More
reading more about Kendra and Hutch's budding romance! I liked how the book began, with a surprise, (no spoilers), and how a recap of previous happenings was woven throughout the continuing story. For this reason, I would still recommend reading the books in order, but it can also be read as a stand-alone. I was glad to see the familiar landscapes and faces of Parable, Montana - as descriptive and lively as ever - a Linda Lael Miller trademark, but I could not figure out why I was not as enthralled by the characters as I had been previously. I remembered Hutch having more of a misunderstood "bad-boy" persona, full of unbridled passion; unfortunately, there was little to no trace of those traits in the second book. There were moments when I thought the old Hutch would resurface, especially during the more risque sections, but I was left wanting. Speaking of, the romance level was very shallow, just enough to move the story along, but not really building on anything. Slade and Joslyn interacted more in the last book than Kendra and Hutch did in this one; there was quite a lot of inner dialogue this go around. However, I did enjoy the slowly mending relationship between Slade and Hutch, I was happy to see them getting along and the same was true for Boone's relationships. Character wise, I still liked most of their temperaments - especially Kendra's no-nonsense attitude and down-to-earth charms - but even though they were realistic, I never truly felt invested in their lives. As always, I loved the animal aspect and the plot-line was pretty interesting - as was the subplot. I just wish that the book had contained a little more action, (romantic and otherwise), and a little less daily grind. Although I did not enjoy Big Sky Mountain as much as Big Sky Country, I cannot wait for Big Sky River to come out in January! I hope that I am lucky enough to review that installment as well! Recommended for those in the mood for a family-centered romance with a little heat.

Rating: Bounty's Out (3/5)

I am normally a fan of Linda Lael Miller’s books but Big Sky Mountain, in my opinion, was not a favorite. Book two in the Parable, Montana/Big Sky series, found me a little lost and the blurb did not truly
Show More
represent the book.

Kendra and Hutch have a past together; one that clearly neither of them are over. Their lives currently have them both in places where the last thing they need is the complications of renewing their relationship. Hutch just recently left someone at the altar and Kendra just adopted her dead ex-husband’s illegitimate daughter! Seriously!

Realistically, those two stories could have made Big Sky Mountain interesting but Ms. Miller was clearly more interested in setting up plots for future books because there were so many other things going on in this book that at times Hutch and Kendra were merely background noise. There were three other stories (at least!) brewing in this book and they were a little too distracting because it made you forget your main characters. Too much stopping and starting of the stories.

Linda Lael Miller is a wonderful writer. The way she tells a story makes even a story that’s hard to read easy. Kendra and Hutch deserved a full story considering this was their book.

Overall Rating 4.25
Story Rating 4.00
Character Rating 4.50

First thought when finished: I really loved Hutch even though in the beginning he left a gal at the alter!

What I Thought of the Story: Big Sky Mountain is the 2nd book in the series so you already have an attachment
Show More
to many of the characters. I think this helped a LOT with accepting Hutch Carmody and Kendra Sheperd for exactly where they are in their lives. The story starts with Hutch leaving another woman at the alter (actually doing the right thing though his timing could have better) and Kendra returning to town with a little girl in tow. To say their path back to romance (they had a relationship a long time ago) is tough would be putting it mildly. What made the romance/story so believable to me is that they both had to grow in order for it to work!

What I Thought of the Characters: I loved Hutch! He is the reason that Big Sky Mountain worked so well for me. Kendra, I liked in the first book but I will admit she got on my nerves a little in the beginning of this one. Then again her whole life had just changed so I should have been more understanding. The side characters in LLM's books usually steal the show for me. In Big Sky Mountain, it was no different. I always say to read her books for the romance but come back to her series to visit the characters. She just has a way of bringing them alive! I am really looking forward to Boone and Tara's story because I know it is going to be a doozy!

Final Thought: This was better than the first book and very enjoyable!

This book was a fairly quick read from beginning to end. Lots of action and story to keep you turning the page. At times I felt the writing was rough, but nothing that distracted from understanding the story. The book had its suspense and romance, as well as the growing up. I would definitely
Show More
classify this book as young adult, but had the suspense and romance and paranormal all going on.

I was very intrigued with the relationship Jamison had with his grandfather. This was probably the favorite part of the book for me. I could feel that Jamison loved his grandfather and would do anything for that man. I loved the Scottish accent as well. Quite fun to read.

This is the first book in a series and I think I forgot that when I started reading it, so when I got to the end, I was disappointed it didn’t end. Not that it didn’t have a good ending, it just didn’t end. Typical for a first book in a series. I definitely will be watching for the second book of this series.
I would recommend this to readers who like paranormal, mystery, and suspense in their Young Adult. And even if you don’t like Young Adult, there is still enough variety to keep you interested.

I love this author. She has yet to disappoint me, she can write a great romance. Even though they are sometimes similar i have enjoyed all the books i have read by her.

Kendra and Hutch do make a good couple .I love a story of rekindled flame .Although they did start flirting and talking to each other not long after he left Brylee at the altar so I'm surprised that didn't end up as more of a scandal . I'm glad it wasn't a scandal , there was defiantly no running
Show More
around on Hutch's part. I loved how sweet Hutch was to Madison and how good he was to her. I'm looking forward to reading more from the Parable series.

This is the continuing story of family and freinds in the small town of Parable, Montana. This story is just as good, if not better, than the original "Big Sky Country."

We continue with the life of Kendra, who just adopted her ex-husbands daughter from a previous fling. Why would Kenda do that? How
Show More
does Kenda change her life to accommodate this little girl?

What about Hutch...he is engaged to be married, to another woman. What happens at that wedding ceremony? Who is this bride?

How is Joslyn doing with her new husband Slade? And her step-daughter, Shea, who is still living with them? Joslyn and Slade have a new baby, what is Shea going to feel like with a new baby in the house?

Lots of happenings going on in Parable! What is Opal up to? Why does she move in with Hutch for a while? What about that new preacher coming to town?

This is a wonderful story, with romance and family life all thrown in together. It is a second book in a series, but can also be read as a stand alone story. I love the fact that there are openings for more books to come.

I received this book free from the publisher for this review. I was not required to write a positive review. These opinions about this book are my own.

I love this author. She is one of my favorites. I like that her books have a character focus but still bring back previous ones. I also love the western theme's that run through all of her novels. When I want a little love an country I always hear for one of her books. It's guaranteed not to

disappoint.

Rescued animals, adopted children, horses, babies, lusty romantic cowboys and nice trucks. What else could you want ? This was a real nice story about a couple who need a second chance after many years of separation, other relationships, mistrusts and miscommunications. They struggle the ups and
Show More
downs, deal with outside forces and try to find ground to stand on. It all starts with one sexy cowboy stoping his own wedding while his fiancé' is walking down the isle. Opps !
A great second book in the series with a Follow up on the pervious couple. I liked this one more than the first, much more angst. LOL

A pretty good cowboy romance. Very slow, and too long unfortunately.

And often things were restated, like a summary at the end of a chapter. Too much.

Hutch Carmody has never got over his early love, Kendra. Kendra returns to the small town with a daughter, Madison, and argues with herself ad
Show More
infinitum about returning Hutch's interest.

Hutch is described as having an easy charm. It's both a curse and a blessing depending on the prejudices and jealousies of the persons judging him. But his charm doesn't seem fake, or manipulative - at least not intentionally apart from using his gift to ease his passage through life.

I found it annoying how he seemed to be in the bad books for this, like our national pastime of cutting down tall poppies.

I didn't find the running out on the bride thing all that big a deal but it was a diverting start to the novel.
